I'm not impressed with the bulgy welds, but I agree with leaving the floor of the old mount on, theres a good chance that no matter how you remove the old one there will be a "soft" spot where the frame was welded, we all know how the aluminum will puddle or flow into the weld. I'm thinking that the tube at the weld joint is probably thinner wall than anywhere else, cutting off the weld, which is partially the opriginal tubes material in theory will make it weaker, not less grade, but just thinner.
