If you are talking about the gold colored coating that is on there to keep the sleeve from rusting. You have to clean it off, it can take awhile too.

It's called cosmoline. My new cylinder came with it as well. Like sabre said, it's to prevent rust. When you're ready to assemble, clean it off with brake cleaner, or if you're sending it to be ported, leave it on there when you send it off to keep everything in good shape.

I'd raise some hell about that. Here's what mine looked like out of the box.

:? :? :?

Which spot are we looking at exactly, I think I know but can't quite tell.

If both photos were from the same angle it would be more obvious.

thats how they look. the cylinder is made in a mold, which will have burs and snags. they run a dremel through to half ass match it to the sleeve. the newer jugs dont have the web going all the way down to the gasket. maybe the older models had that but the newer ones dont. the only person to touch it was a little chinese dude making $3 day.

Neither catapiller looking port is larger thane the gasket. It's just the "wings" are farther down than fastkarts. Actually they are gone
