the only other 3 i've had anything to do with were installed + sold to chad450 and are currently in the hands of Dewayne Jones for port work

Looks like a great base to start from IMO. I wished to hell I had done this during my last bore.
So Roostius...you dislike plated aluminum bores but you don't have a problem sleeving them for customers
Next year I suppose will be as good a time as any for me. Although I'll have Advanced Sleeve provide the aluminum, the pics of that LA Sleeve unit are getting me motivated! Maybe I'll do it this winter...

Mick, no i dont like them. Not something 500 related, but general experience of cylinders walking in the door to be replated. If my cast liner is tore up, i come to the shop after hours, do an hour of work to bore it, or at the worst sleeve it, grab a piston from inventory and ride the next day instead of sitting on my hands watching the calender. I'm running this bike stuff recreationally and have never had a problem, and i've seldom seen repair done to a 2 stroke as cheap as these near stock combination 500s.
I'm not going to say there isn't a place for plated/coated parts to make potentially more power for race applications, but theres almost an open expense account to participate in that.
But that's expecting to have a problem isn't it? A plated bore could mitigate alot of accidents that happen altogether as well. But I understand, if you were to mess up so bad you did ruin a jug you're not riding again for $200.
Id love an aluminum setup. DeWayne told me he runs a single ring and like .0015" clearence on a wiseco, it lasts forever, runs way more efficiently. he said he gained power and was able to lean out it jetting at the same time. I just can't justify the cost.

Yes exactly. Not that I or anyone else is gonna feel a difference on the bike. I figure dumping the steel sleeve puts a CR500 powerplant another decade ahead of the fourstrokes in power : weight ratio. One way of looking at it is power only benefits you when you're on the throttle. Reduced weight is an advantage 100% of the time, on or off the throttle. And that big jug is a good distance above the axles, not a bad place to loose several pounds. A Ti shock spring costs $500 and does nothing but save one pound of static weight. A plated alloy sleeve costs $600 and saves 4.5lbs (Roostius?), and on top of that;

After seeing 2 examples (my half gig hour yz450, and my girls run dry on oil crf250) im totally sold on Niki cyl's. The only issue I have with doing the 500 is the lack of case law on the can do and cannots (cold stick, side clearance, etc.). Id be really interested in a single ring, tight sidewall forged setup run on E85. Too bad we cant track down sili crank seals...

Danny has lots of free time at work and some pretty good computers, he spent a lot of time searching the inna-net. Plus we asked the cart guys who run Alky (forced to by rules) as well...

I found a couple places who would custom make them, nobody had anything off the shelf. the custom guys wanted like a minimum 100 qty order, so I posted about it on both boards and not one single reply

I'm setting up my stealth for e85... 1200cc injectors, dual 255lph pumps, and the ability to push 30+ psi of boost on something I get from the pump for cheaper than regular with bikes its the same concept, run higher compression, more timing, etc on fuel that is cheaper than regular pump gas and shit loads cheaper than the blue can. I live 3 miles from my work and there is an e85 station right in the middle of that drive... Vegas is FULL of e85 stations and biodiesel stations.

Oh gosh...is that because somebody read it has an octane rating of 100-105?? So you know that's RON. The way I see it E85 is 81 octane, Motor Octane Number that is. A number of premium pump fuels are rated at 95-96 MON. It's well known ethanol raises compression, but it's not the compression we speak of when we talk about race fuels. ALL VP fuels for instance are MON rated.
tell that to chris at 3sx who runs 10.6 @135 on a stock motor w/ turbos, pumps, injectors and management running e85. BTW, he broke the transfer case on that run and got a horrible start. its 85% alcohol... think M1 in the blue can w/ 15% regualar unleaded.
