I do know a 85 n 86 shock will work and that the shock is a major week link on a 84. A 85 86 shock is better in than a 88 in the regard that it has a remote resavoir. But the 88 has a piggy back RES so I do not kNOW if it will work.

I have the stuff in the garage but it would take some serious digging to line it all up and take a look.

Thanks, let me know...I might just send it to him and have him test fit it to see.

what condition is it in and how much would you sell it for...he wants to rebuild his but i told him it would be cheaper to buy one in good condition.

I would go with a shock that is at least the same dimensions, and then expect to rebuild it a) if the suspension geometry is any different from the donor bike, b) Honda got it wrong in the first i.e. like the CR480R and c) if you are bigger/faster etc. than Honda expected. I recommend Rich Truinski over at Tru-Technologies for doing a complete re-fresh, revalve and anodizing job.

The shape of the 87/88 shock will hit on the 84 airbox and possible the sub frame as well.
So unless you want to modify the crap out of everything, that will be a BIG no for an 87/88 shock fitting an 84 CR125-500.
