Gen 3 450 vs gen 3 250 ??????

Post by ~Trever »

So I can never make up my mind. I first bought a gen 2 250 roller to convert but I Really wanted a gen 3. Since I'm broke I wanted something that ran until I could afford the conversion so I sold it. I picked up a dirt cheap 03 450 and I'm back in the dirt for now. I want to build a a/f when funds allow but who knows when that will be. My newest idea is to sell or trade the 03 450 for a 02-07 250. I figure the conversion will be easier and I'm just plain sick of riding 450's. Here is my only problem I'm 6'5'' and 275ish isn't the 450 chassis more suited to my size? Plus I got to deal with the 450 breaking down until I can convert it. what to do

The gen3 450 may be more suited to your size, but the gen3 250 may be what you like more.
The idea would be ride one of each and decide which one you would rather ride the most, if that be the gen3 450 keep it.
If that be the gen3 250, ditch the gen3 450 before it shits itself.
Then buy a gen3 250 ride it until you can afford to convert it.
I hope this helps a little.
Good luck.

jsut as an FYI i sold the running motor and electronics off my 03 450 for 800 bucks. nearly paid for my conversion. BTW im riding an 03 450 AF and love the thing.. im 6'0 and 240. the bike will be noticibly lighter and easier to handle in the air with the 500 in it. In fact i like the chassis better with the pinger in it. feels more nimble all the way around.

gen3 250 does have a low seat height compared to the steelys which are pretty tall bikes. you would probly want the tall aftermarket seat. i cant remeber the name of the company that makes them. on my 250 i can easily touch both feet on the ground, on my steely i can only get one leg down

my 03 250 is taller than the uncles 03 450, and almost exact to my tallest, the 87 500, the gen 4 250f is a tiny little thing beeing the same height as a sagged out '91 500 and shorter than the 99 or 00 500s in the garage that are still not as tall as my 3rd tallest, the 88

and if it needs to be taller use the 125 seat on it
