Burn it down

Post by Roostius_Maximus »

Sunday Nick with the gen4 250f geared 14/51 and i with the '88 geared 14/48 we're haulin ass accross a field that was too wet to turn the bikes in. 1/2 mile of sloppy topsoil soaked so we we're sinking in to the rear axel in some places, there was actually more traction where there was water laying than in the shiny mud.
We held it wfo in 4th the entire time, Nick backed out 3/4 of the way accross cuz the bike had tired him out from headshake. when we got to the other side i took a little cool down on the road and nick just shut it down saying that the motor felt soft now. an hour later it squeeked at part throttle cruizing home.
The results are a NOT cracked VERTEX at .50mm, mild scuffing at the exhaust side, not stuck to the bridge but above it. The piston stil measures good til within 1/4" of the ring where the material from the dome is actually welded to the piston making a lip that rises above the original edge. The rings are screwed, no tension, and wore .080" off the face of the ring at the exhasut side. Its got a thumbprint indent in the crown and splatter on the underside where the piston was begining to torch thru but never did make a hole. There is one piont on the intake side where piston material looks to have been blown back thru the intake charge and fused to the piston and ring, probably helping tilt the piston to the exhasut side of the sleeve and causing it to stick.
My idea on what happened, obviously too hot from load/only premium gas/probably could be jetted fatter. The ring lost tension in the heat, wore the face off so the piston had to make contact and scuffed it down.
Either way it was an excellent day of riding
