Kragen HID+walmart battery= nightrides!

Post by tacogrande »

By the time I get home from work it's dark, so I haven't been riding as much as usual and that sucks. I have a set of kragen HID's (They were on sale for $99 a piece) on my truck and they have done well in the desert. I can't afford the baja designs kit right now, so this is just a temporary setup, but it works good. So for under $150 I can ride for a couple hours every night again. The HID light only draws 35W so you can get away with a smaller battery. I just recharge the battery when I park it.

Went for a ride tonight, turns out that battery only lasts about an hour. Time to find something bigger or get a stator from baja designs.

Hmmm here's an  make use of the chain roller and figure out how to get generator connected to it.

I wonder if at only 35 watts if the moose lighting coil would keep that battery charged enough?
Their part# is 2111=0074 rated at 45w.
Maybe with the battery and coil it would work?

First you need to find a supplier for one of these...

Image

Then you have to find someone who has a Machine shop and doesn't want to make any money and is willing to spend a bunch of money and time to develop them into a true 200 watt lighting coil.

A Dyno is very useful because bench testing isn't worth a shit and there's not one coil out there that put's out what the manufacturer claims.

How's that Doug? :P

$100 isn't bad. I bet it would be fine if it's a DC lighting coil. My riding buddy needs a partner for the nightrace, so I have to come up with something or I'll be a cheerleader. Not that handing out beers is that tough of a job, but I'd rather be riding, lol.
