Which quad would you suggest?

Post by Ported&Polished »

I'm looking at a few quads so I have a night riding bike for the dunes. I like the Raptor 660, and Jay Lewis says his has been good. I also have a line on a 89 Quadzilla, and of course the Banshee is a another choice. Anyone have input on which one they like?

I'd stay away from the zilla unless the cases have been modded to fix the crank boss prob. Banshee, well unless you what a zinger for night rides however its twice the cost for top end parts and there not made anymore.

I rode Jays Rator at the last pismo ride. Plenty of power for the dunes. Wheelies in an instant if you want it to. Blurred my vision once your into fourth gear, hopefully because of the chop and not my old age.

I have an 01 660 Raptor stock other than a White Bros pipe and its sweet! No complaints about it other than it's not a good trail bike. Plenty of power. I second Iggy on the Quadzilla, you won't find one that has tight crank bearings unless the cases have had the inserts done. I bought mine in mint shape, but the cases were hosed. I rode my buddy's 700 fuel injected Raptor and there is absolutely no comparison!

They are all 3 fun but only one of them has electric start and reverse. On a quad these are pretty handy.

banshee, had one and loved it and has the ability to be fast as hell...dont worry, you dont have to do valve adjustments on them.

those 4strokes are turds. im sure youll come to your senses and buy banshee. '86-'89 250r was good qaud also but clean ones are hard to find sometimes and some parts may be getting scarse but i dont know. with the large amount of banshee followers, parts will always be available

this one would be my choice. original owner, motor is probly still bone stock, it was gently ridden, extra set of knobbies and paddles

DuneFreak over at DumontDuneRiders.com has an 02 Raptor 660 and that thing has been thru HELL and back and still keeps on tickin.. Keep them stock and do the preventative maintenance required and they will last forever.

STAY AWAY FROM THE QUADZILLA! They are turds and everyone I know who has had one had major issues and they are slow as hell. The raptors are nice, but I'd go with a banshee all the freaken way! there is an endless aftermarket for them, reliable as hell (mrs. mfdb's lasted 11 years on the originial topend getting hammered in the dunes), plus there is that wonderful smell of 927
honestly either the raptor or banshee are great qwads, but personally I think the banshees are more fun to ride, cheaper, easier to maintain and sound flat out sick when you wind them out!

Ok, I have decided on a Banshee, going to see it tomarrow. The bike has been ported and polished, milled head, welded and balanced crank, advanced timing, 34mm slide carbs, boysen reeds, T5 pipes comes with paddles and desert tires. It's a 01, should be good.

I don't think it needs anything else to make it faster. I'll prolly put some new bars and some brighter lights on it, then maybe get a suspension for it.
