anybody thought of this?

CR450- as in 450 two stroke

Why?
1) to be legal for 450cc racing class(specificly Pikes Peak Hillclimb)
2) different engine characteristics/power delivery.
I am an engine nut and am facinated by different engine combos and thier power characterics. For example in small block chev the various combos and how they are all great for different purposes, some are screamers high revs some torquers. Chev 302 vs. 327 vs, 350 vs 355 vs 377 vs 383 vs 406. Its not always about displacement, the chev 302 is great example.
What are you thoughts hoons?

That'd be cool, but don't the rules discriminate between 2 and 4 cycles? Hence why they race 250 2 strokes in the 450 class? Maybe not I don't know, but it'd be a cool bike.

That's exactely right. A 450 2 stroke would not be allowed to race the 450 4 strokes. It all stems from an old rule from the 70's that said a 4 stroke could be as big as a 450cc and still be allowed to race in the 250 class. But that was back when a 4 stroke was really heavy and had very little chance of beating a 2 stroke in a race. So they allowed up to a 450cc to race against the 250 2 strokes. And that is the same reason why Yamaha decided to make the new 4 strokes 400's then 426's and finally 450cc's. It all worked out for the manafacturers that make bikes because along with modern light weight 4 strokes came modern high prices for them and their accessories. 2 stroke techknowledgy hadn't changed much in 20 years and the manafacturers couldn't justify charging alot more money each model year for a machine that for all intense and purposes was identical to the previous years bikes. It's nice to think that folks still like 2 strokes and want to make them into 450 killers but the people in charge are not going to allow a 450 2 stroke to compete profesionally against the 4 strokes. I'm afraid 2 strokes are going to go the way of the dinosaur and there is nothing we can do about it. The 500's we ride are destined to become extinct withing a decade or so, especially when the aftermarket completly stops making replacement parts and accesories for them,or when pre mix oil becomes unavailable all together.
Don't Clyde it, ride it!

In mx thats the case but for pikes peak it is a straight up cc class structure, so you would have to ride the cr5oo in the 700cc and up class vs the 450 class(they have a 250, 450, 700+, and vintage class)

Alisobob- yes ultimately bigger is better, but not for every situation, sometimes having a slightly smaller higher reving engine, could be better than the larger one. Just one of the odd ball things i want to build before i leave this earth, lol :-). And I want to show two stroke power(they can smell the premix) to some cr450's for 156 turns to the top of pikes peak.

If the ama lets the 250 2stroke enter the pro1 or mx1 like theyre talking, the actual limit for cc is 278 or something
IF they crack out the same rule for the pro2 or mx2 the cc limit was 495, WE R IN!
