Fat kid on a little bike.

Post by Blusmbl »

So my neighbor Spencer and I both have a minibike fetish. I picked up the gem depicted below a week or so ago, after riding his around for awhile, figuring it was good, clean fun for the whole family.

Wrong!

So I've had two semi-major incidents already. #1, I was riding his and lost it on some gravel. It swapped out a couple times on the transition from pavement, I burnt the inside of my leg on the exhaust, and my knee on the exposed clutch, but I figured it was a freak accident, backed it down a tad, and continued on my merry way.

Yesterday, I'm out on mine, we're racing full bore around a cul-de-sac, throttle pinned, leg out dirt bike style, doing maybe 25mph and leaned way over. Hit a bump, the solid peg hit the ground, unloaded the rear, and that was all she wrote. Both of my knees are hit, I have a big lump on my shin, and my arm got it pretty good too.

I hobbled home, bleeding in my work pants, seriously reconsidering riding this thing. I can go a year on the CR500 riding like a pussy and not even have any major offs, but in the span of 2 weeks I'm hobbling around like a gimp thanks to a lack of fear while riding a shittastic minibike.

Action photos from today:

Gettin' it done, mere fractions of an inch from the peg digging into the grass and flying off again.

It's geared 10/60 right now, I'm going to put a 72 rear on it to help it get out of the hole and slow it down some. It should be just about perfect for backyard chaos set up like that, and the clutch will live longer with my fat ass too.

I need a bear costume.

well dont get a torq verter then cuz it wil acelerate alot harder and have a higher top speed (overdrive) lol. I love those old mini bikes and build mini choppers with the same engine setup, lots of fun but yeah crashing still hurts. The small bikes only give the illusion of safety, lol

Where do you put the gas? Fill the carbs and ride for 30 seconds?

roost251- yeah, I'm not getting a TAV for it now, I'll certainly end up wrecked in spectacular fashion. I'll probably put a 72 on the back with a regular clutch and call it good.

I'd kill myself on a CR500 powered version (that photo is hilarious!!!), but the crotch-rocket one is just mind boggling. I wonder if anybody's actually tried running a 1/4 mile pass with it...

i did that to mine, but i was small hill shooting with it, and fucked it up. i made plates to reinforce that area, and i still ride it. i beat the fuckin snot outta mine, running a 6.5 horse chinese honda motor (jiangdong)

runs great, for 6 + years. beat the flying fuck out of it, and it still starts right up. for 120$ for the brand new motor, it cant be beat! doesnt even smoke yet.

and i ride this thing FULL THROTTLE all the time. tops out at 30, nearly pulls a wheelie getting there. if i could ride a dirtbike as aggressively as this thing, i'd be rich. it has no brakes, but i can throw it sideways in dirt and turn around at top speed. just dig the solid peg into the dirt and RIP!!!!!!! ill get some pics someday.

theres 10 kids at home with those bikes, one jackass has a 9.5hp honda knock off, and the other one is puting a lil diesel in his. one of them lost his dad a few years back, hes a damn good worker, and i let him come work for me whenever he wants, usually he'll need bike parts that i'll sell him at cost, if he uses them or sells them i dont know, but hes always ready to work hard, but always spends more than he earns
Miami Mb is small, 13 streets or something, so its a big deal when the cops come to town, and usually its cus the minibiker gang is riding til midnight, cops send them home and it happens agian the next night. Some of the kids ride up the old railway to the golfcourse, the cops stopped them crossing the road and told them to ride down the highway

I'll be honest, I'm more of a hooligan on the minibikes than I am on the 500. I don't turf people's lawns, but my neighbor and I go ride through the local parks and on the street almost daily. Even now that it's 15* outside! We do stop around nighfall, though.

My first frame is in for repair, so I ended up building an old Lil Indian, and on top of that I just picked up a CRF70 after thanksgiving that I've been having a riot on. Small bikes are awesome!

What my backyard looked like, after an entire afternoon of riding around in a snowstorm:

I've already had some spectacular offs on the 70 trying to do j-turns on snow covered pavement, and I took a handlebar shot to the ribs on the yellow Lil Indian after it swapped out on ice.

I'm an idiot. :D
