Rebuilding a '00 cr250

Post by DesertCR »

Just wondering if any of you guys have any experience with cr250's? I'm planning on doing a lower end rebuild in mine. I just cant decide between cranks; Wiseco, Hotrods, or OEM? Anybody have any experience with the first two? And one more thing, what should I pay attention to when messing with the power valve?

I'm rebuilding my 2000 also. I found a oem crank on ebay for $150 buy it now brand new. I haven't looked at HPD to see what one is with the discount but it was cheaper than SH at the time. I didn't need it but bought it anyways just because it was cheap. You might look there the guy had several available and was very professional and quick to ship.

As far as the power valve just take it all apart and clean it. A soak in solvent or a trip through the bead blaster will remove any built up carbon. Mine was carboned up pretty bad and wasn't letting the flap drop all the way down in the exhaust port (less bottom end). Also check the bearings for the triple port valves and make sure that they turn freely. One of mine was also gummed up.

Then just put it back together and index properly and make sure it moves freely. If its sticking when you turn it by hand its not indexed right or something is still holding it up. I really had to scrub on the main flap where the pins from the triple port valves go through to get all the carbon out. That was what was keeping it partially stuck up.

Thanks for the tips. I just ordered a crank from HPD for $227, not bad, (I missed the ebay deal). I was gonna have MrCrankshaft rebuilt mine with a new rod but it was gonna cost about $180 so I figured just buy a new one sine I need gaskets and other misc stuff. Yeah, I hate these powervalves, I've never messed with one. Do you know exactly where to apply the moly 60 paste and grease on the PV?
