Clutch/waterpump cover question

Post by kkvslayer »

Did Honda move the drain on the waterpump cover sometime between 86 and 93? cause on my new 93 Right sidecover there is nowhere for my coolant drain bolt to go through,it goes through the waterpump cover but straight to the gasket sealing surface,I thought the pump cover was the same through all the years but It seems like I need a new pump cover as well?

that cover is the same. the hole is like halfway covered with gasket, so if you use anything other than a regular gasket (rtv, etc) it might cover the rest of the hole.

well if thats the case honda majorly screwed up on this rightside cover because when I put the waterpump cover on there is nowhere for the drain bolt to go,on my 86 sidecover the drainbolt goes through the waterpump cover and in the rightside cover it is cut away around that area which is the smallest sealing surface for the gasket but on this new cover it is totally different, unless my 86 cover is extremly worn in that area?I'll take a pic tonight

uuummmm, the drain bolt isn't supposed to go through! its a short maybe 10mm long bolt that only goes in the cover. sounds like your old '86 side cover got nigyvered!

ya on my 86 the bolt goes right through, the sealing surface on the right cover is only as wide as the gasket is in that area, the bolt could go right in there,so the bolt should only be as long as the hole in the pump cover then

Side note; I discovered last month that the 450's don't have a drain plug on there cover. Looking closer one of the main bolts that holds the cover on doubles as the drain plug. There is a passage way casted into the cover for draining. Then I found the gasket under the bolt.
