n00b from central NC
Hey guys,
Just want to say hi, and thank Bob and the rest of y'all for this site
I was the OE of an '85 CR500R, and sold it to my best friend "in a time of weakness" a couple of years ago. I'm working to put another CR500R in my garage before the end of the year, most likely an AF model. In the meantime, I'm working on restoring my '74 Maico 400 back to original condition.
Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to getting to the point I can make some helpful contributions to your board -

hey guys,
thanks for the welcome! here's a few (big) pix -
"back in the day", when I still had some hair -
my 400, as it was before I started the resto - pretty well modded -
preliminary bolt-up, next to an ATK friend -
note diferrence in chassis size - not just camera angle - these older bikes are a good bit smaller -
another angle -
a pic of my ol' 500, from back in her day - sniff

thanks guys,
the bike next to my 400 belongs to a friend, and I misstated - it's actually a CCM - a '96 C25, with a 604cc Rotax.
But I just learned about Honda going with aluminum in the later model clutch cases I rebuilt my '85 twice before I started running distilled H2O, and draining it after every day's ride - a PITA. With the improved waterpump issue, another CR500 is now at the top of my list -

yep, I kinda think so also. They were core bad-a** back in their time. The '81 490 is still apparently a pretty formidable machine. I've considered one of them as my next bike, or possibly a "frankenbike" - a Magnum ('78 or '79) modded with the larger '81 forks and a 490 motor.ou812 wrote:Welcome, Maico's are
