Armagosa Dunes 02/23-24

Post by dannygraves »

About 100 mi north of Vegas is a quiet little dune spot that is INSANE!!! STEEP AS HELL...BRUTAL riding, really puts dumont to shame except there isn't anything quite as tall as dumont. Met up with MFDB and came out with his bud Jason... got a 98 in a 70 zone ticket on my way :x but other than that the day was awesome!
The weather was perfect, the sand was still a little wet and it was about 50-60* out. I had to finish getting that mikuni dialed in, so I had to make a few trips back the camp.
I wasn't really at the top of my game that day and wasn't expecting as much improvement as I got from my recent mods, so my first launch I looped the bike HARD, I was sitting on the tank and it flat out kicked my ass off!!!
here a camera phone pic, unfortunatelly Mrs MFDB wasn't there with the video cam yet to catch it!
Image
poor NEW silencer and fender! I was rollin like a flat biller all day!
There were seriously maybe 30 people out there all together and only 1 rail, so we were really able to just have fun and not always be looking not to get run over.
we raced up the hil for a while, I was having a lot of trouble launching (need swingarm and more paddles now  ) so every race I sucked at launch but caught up in no time :D. MFDB didn't take his 500 out once, so I was racing against his 450 which was also the only thing that ever beat me to the top of the hill all day (only when I got a crummy launch, which was most of the time)
Some qwads wanted to race, and after I beat all of them by A LOT they didn't want to play with us anymore
we did some jumps, which most of you know isn't really my thing and I had a lot of fun messing it up!
I ate it a few times really hard, the dunes are so steep and the sand so soft its some really tough riding. One time I was coming off one dune onto the flats, then onto another dune and bottomed out so hard my toes went into the sand and me and the bike went dow HARD. another time a rhino full of chicks went driving by and I was trying to see if they were hot or not and dumped it! either way it was an awesome time and I think I like it more than dumont.
Mrs. MFDB got some good vid footage, but never got any of my crashes! the dude who was behind me when I bottomed out getting across dunes said it was one of the coolest things he had evere seen. we need some damn helmet cams.
I only went for the day sat. so I'm sure MFDB will have some stories about sunday and some videos of me pulling some sweet (tiny  ) jumps!

Nice - well you have an excuse to buy a nice shiny RED fender now! ;)

Oh and while you're at it, order two of those FMF silencer caps. hahhaa...

Glad you had fun dude! I was stuck hanging oak doors this weekend. :(

I'm thinking about going with the red/white/black combo plastics, or all black and all white...

You wear your water pack under your chest protector??
I tried that and didnt like the way it fit so I loosened the straps of my Camelback and it fits perfectly over my Fox Airframe.

I got in the habit as my first roost was a Thor with a big "ridge" back protector so it worked way better under the roost. I havnt tried it with the Fox, but now that you mention I might. Its just a bitch to get the shoulder straps over the shoulder pads...
