Mixing two kinds of pre-mix

Post by britincali »

I know everyone sais its like burning the bible to mix different pre-mixed gasses as the oil can seperate and or cause issues but Ive never seen or heard of anything negative with actual damage occuring.

I run castor oil and have mixed all kinds of stuff in my tank, I might have run low or out and borrowed some from a friend and never had an issue.

I also have never had an issues with castor separating.

Is this all just paranoid heresay or has anyone experinced damage or issues from blending say synthetic and dino ????

Ive done it loads of times in the past, aside from running out of gas and "borrowing" someone else's I've been getting ready for a ride and ran out of oil then just used whatever else I could find in the shed.

So far Ive used

Craftsman
Poulan
Vatozone silcolene stuff
Castrol 2T outboard oil

And everytime Ive had some maxima 927 left in the tank from a prev ride.

I've never had an issue :?

I've mixed all sorts of crap...like you I'm a cheap ass and when I'm low I use whatever I've got. never had a problem. the way I see it is oil is oil...it lubes...the end.
I've been finishing off a bunch of chevron oil for the last couple months and topped off a 927 tank with that stuff without any problems.

I saw a kid grab the lawn-mower can, filled his moped tank half full,
then grabbed a jug of 10w30 and proceeded to glug glug glug into the tank......."is that enough?" ...glug.....glug......glug..... "that should do it........."

lol.

Totally un-related, but it just reminded me of a funny story.
I would have been about 12 years old or so......
My step dad, myself, and my little brother went to look at a an unknown honda dirtbike for my bro.
The owner couldnt explain why it kept fouling plugs.......claimed to be mixing it at the right ratio......step dad agreed the plug looked rich.....
They haggled about price.......
......I then stepped in and, hey guys, I think this bike is a 4 stroke? Doesnt that mean you dont mix the oii and gas?

They told me I was wrong and blah blah blah.......
I then quickly showed them the vin plate and identified it as an XR100. ......stupid adults....... :D
Yah, I'm from Saskatchetoon!

My dad use to road race 125s back in the day and if he was broke he would run rape seed (canola) or peanut oil.

Heres the post from thumpertalk that got me thinking about this....

"also DONT mix your oils.. if you go from say yamalube or a non castor based oil to a castor based oil.. make sure everything is ridded out of the system before switching... bad stuff happens when you mix the 2 lol"

He who wrote it shall remain nameless (ISBB)

I've used emergency gas on the trail, a shot of 93 mixed with Golden Spectro, with no issues. But I'll not run out of Klotz soon, gotta big steel can full now!

All I ever heard was don't mix synthetic with petroleum based. Which seems really stupid to me. Isn't that what you're doing with synthetic oil anyway? Mixing it with actual petroleum?

I have no stories as I have always used the same stuff anyways.

I don't believe any actual damedge will occur, its just that why take a chance of it guming up the works or leaving one stranded and or having to mess with the bike for an hour while your buds are riding  I wouldn't do it unless I had no other chose. :help:

of the (seems like) thousand gallons i have mixed I have never had a failure besides fouling , and thats no failure. I raced a 76 bultaco 370 for 5 years in hare scrambles and long dist. desert races. all the while using
penzoil 30w motor oil mixed at 25:1. I never fried a piston and it never fouled a plug. The only Bad thing about reg. motor oil is that it seperates easily and is hard to mix up. If you were stopped on a trail fixin a tire or parked a while, you would shake the bike before starting it lol! just to keep it agitated. if you watch some 70's vids of dirt bikes generally youll see a person give their bike a quick side to side shake before starting.
