Don't you just love it when builders beg and beg you to take on their jobs, rush you to get it done, then when it comes time to pay you, they are no where to be found. Won't return phone calls or emails. Bullsh!t. My poor guys worked nights and weekends to finish 6 houses, and 2 large commercial jobs this month, and I haven't seen a penny( of course I've paid my guys). The number one reason why I hate new construction, and generally avoid it like the plague.

This shot is a couple of weeks old... Its a building I'm doing in Playa Vista...
You cant see the rear of the building that faces the ocean, but its all clad in polyurethane trim too. Another lower belly band additional window surrounds have been installed since this photo was taken.
I have about $400k in materials, and about $25k in labor tied up into this, with about another $50k in labor to go until I can bill it.
Oh well....... life as a contractor....

Nope, I don't take anything up front. To many shady contractors out there, most customers feel better when they don't have to pay till jobs complete. I'm a painting contractor, if anybody never caught that in my sig line. About 95% of our work is residential and commercial repaints. Thats where the money is to be made, and you bring it in every week. This last month and a half, there has been 0 repaints ( starting to feel the economy), all new construction, so, NOTHING has been coming in, and alot has been going out.100hp honda wrote:they pay %50 up front dont they? they cant do anything anyways until the full bill is paid or you put a lien on everything
And, yeah, I can put liens on property, but like stated, that doesn't pay bills at the moment.
It just drives me crazy when they want stuff done in a hurry, but then they can't be bothered to pay. Nothing new, happens all the time. Like I said, I hate new construction.

Good size project there Bob. I'm glad I'm not $425K deep into any projects! I don't mind when they pay on time, its when they don't that things get bad. We've been having alot of trouble collecting these last few months on these commercial jobs. A lot of the general contractors seem to be in financial trouble. It's only going to get worse, the way things are looking.AlisoBob wrote:
