85 restore

Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum but I have a few questions for you CR500 nuts. Lol so I recently picked up a 89 cr500 with an 85 motor in it. And I plan on doing a full resto on it, The bike is in rough shape & the engine is in pieces. But after looking at the engine closer im going to need a new right case half as it is broken right on the Kickstarter. As far as the top end it's deffinetly going to need to be re sleeved & all the ports are filled with corrosion (guessing it's from the magnesium water pump cover). The head has the letters DG stamped on it but I can't find any info on that anywhere. So my questions are 1) what is the best way to go about cleaning out that corrosion 2) should I ditch the original mag. Cover and go with a later model? 3) what other model years are compatible with the 85 case?

go with the late model water pump.
Gen 2 AF, yes it's a SH, so I can call it an AF Damm it!
