THREADED TOP

Where do you find the aluminum threaded part for the gas cap? I'm going to do an aluminum tank (I have zero talent with heatgun to plastic) but can't find that part.

I also don't like the capacity of my tank for off road riding and a custom tank will fix that.

I bought a retrofit cap from Clarke. It's a billet flange that bolts on a dry break tank to let you have a standard cap. It was 75$ shipped, comes with the plastic cap

more tank

Guess I'll Hijack this and post my own pictures when I'm working on mine. :nyah:

I have some questions on the material. I'll be cutting and setting it up for the welder.

What type and thickness do I use?

Is there loss of material during the weld? Basically, If welding two, two inch pieces together, will the total length be four inches or less?

Aluminum gas tank

Here's mine for an 04 CRF250/500. It took a few months and a lot of mods to complete. Holds a little over 1.8 gallons. I used .060,.090,.125 and even a small piece of .25 for the seat post and rubber strap mount. Had the bung machined at work by a friend and welded it inside to reduce distortion. Most of it is 2219 with some 6061. I'm building an alloy tank for my radical RZ350 motard with TZR banana swingarm. :D
