Happy New Year all and thanks in advance for any insights.
I've installed a '01 CR250 digital ignition in an '86 motor. Bike ran OK though spark was weak, ie yellowish; now it's non existent so bike won't start. With an ohm meter I have discovered:
1) Stator plate is short circuiting to ground
2) Pulse generator is putting out 240 ohms when Clyde's manual (for a 1986 CR500) says should be 50-180. Does this matter?
3) Most critically I believe, lack of spark seems due to not enough voltage to the cdi to juice the ignition coil as it's putting out 6-7 volts and should be close to 100 as I understand it.
I understand that upon machining the back of the stator plate these are "plug n play". So while it's possible I may have purchased one that wasn't functioning properly, the weird part is that it was providing a spark and now isn't. What could have caused that and is there anything I can do to troubleshoot and fix it?
