Anyone who thinks that this is OK and compares it to farting vs taking a shit is a fuking idiot and needs to open their eyes.

As far as we are concerned its a matter of how much is being emitted and for how long that will determin the difference between barely detectable fallout vs a shitload of cancer cases and fuked up babies for the next 15 years.

Japan on the other hand is fuked if the wind changes direction.

Decent, but it dosent explain the problem clearly....

In the reactors with water , the water is at 700 degrees, and 2500 psi of pressure.

You cant just dump sea water in... it has to be brought it considerable pressure first, and as far as I know.... there is no equipment on site to do so. This suggests that they have been simply flooding the exterior of the reactors with sea water to try to bring the temps down.... not a efficent method.

In the reactors without water, the fuel rods have melted and the temps associated with this have caused the formation of the Cesium that has been detected and the Hydrogen that blew the buildings apart. The temps required to do both these things is about 2,500 degrees... and you cant just toss water on a 2,500 degree molten blob of radioactive metal, now can you?

The Japanese have screwed the pooch on this one, and as the "Official" report unfolds.... it will contain a steady stream of bad decisions.

Right now its cover-ups and mis-information.

The news is reporting that its a good thing that Japans military has shown up to "help" in the effort. This is terrible news in my estimation.

As at Chernobyl, the military was brought in to provide " Bio-Robots" to clean up the shit. You cant kill plant workers without the media making a fuss, but military guys.... Fukin' game on!!!

Military guys cant wait to die for their country, and this will be proven once again at th Fukushima nuclear plant.

There supposed to have enough electrial power onsite today to restart the pumps, pumps that have the ability to inject water INTO the reactors, instead of just flooding the exteriors.

If these dont work, its "Bio-Robot" time......

The next move after that is the evacuation of Tokyo. Shits going to get busy on Monday, depending on how this weekend goes.

I was talking to Brit the other day.... he was shocked to hear the plant at Chernobyl contuined to operate AFTER the 1986 disaster. Reactor 4 was the site of the Chernobyl accident, but due to high power demand, the other reactors continued to operate until December 2000.

Even after the last reactor shutdown, people continued to work at the Chernobyl plant until reactor units 1, 2, and 3 are totally decommissioned, which is expected to take years. The first stage of decommissioning is the removal of the highly radioactive spent nuclear fuel, which is placed in deep water cooling ponds.

Removal of uncontaminated equipment has begun at unit 1, 2, and 3 and this work could be complete by 2030.

The remains of reactor unit 4 will remain radioactive for some time. The isotope responsible for the majority of the external gamma radiation dose at the site is Caesium-137 which has a half-life of about 30 years. It is likely that with no further decontamination work the gamma ray dosage at the site will return to background levels in about 300 years.

However, as most of the alpha emitters are longer lived, the soil and many surfaces in and around the plant are likely to be contaminated with transuranic metals such as plutonium which have much longer half-lives... something like 600 years.

Unit #3 at Fukishim is a plutonium fueled reactor, and its the one in the worst shape...... Its a bad situation.

I worked at a couple nuke plants during fuel rod exchanges. One of my teachers during some of the training classes told us to imagine that everything inside the plant was covered in poo. That way we wouldnt touch our faces and contaminate ourselves.

Nope. water splits into hydrogen and oxygen somewhere in that neighborhood.....hmm, fuel and oxidizer?

The 10th will be one year ago.... and that reactor plant isnt 100% under control... let alone a real "clean -up" even started.

They dont show any rebuilding of the villages either from what I can find.

No where near 100%, they still havent even entered on of the reactors yet.

A few hundred gallons of melted glowing stuff on the floor is keeping the cleanup crew at bay.....

This is the same kind of stuff they are going to have to deal with at the 30 second mark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDaP0UZVbE0 Thats the molten core of the reactor just looks like melted black glass but its ultra unstable (if you break off the "glass" coating) and highly radioactive.
