looking for new 85-88 rear case bushings for gen 3 swap
looking for new 85-88 rear case bushings for gen 3 swap
im about to start an AF conversion using a gen 3 cr250 and my 1985 motor and although i see a few places selling the motor mounts and frame rails i havent seen anyone advertise a price on the rear case bushings.
i know i can get the swingarm bushings oem from a gen3 cr125 but need the case collars.
who sells them and how much are a custom set of case bushings going for? my motor was previously in a different chassis and the old case bushings i have are of no use and i dont even have an original set to start with.
even a set of dimensions (specifically the overall width of the case with bushings in them) would be helpfull so i can have a local machine shop make them.
what would be a reasonable price on a set made from scratch?
i thought about boring out my cases and fitting gen3 bushings but my motor is fully assembled and powdercoated and i don't really want to got that route.
thanks for your help guys.

there are patterns out there for the 1987-01 motor in the gen3, you'll need to make your own headstay for that short-deck motor

I had some made up at a machine shop locally.
Got 3 sets, and it ended up costing about $125.
You can't get them from honda unless you buy a case half.

There has been a few that bore the bushings out even though they are hardened steel, maybe you could do the same.gixxerbob wrote:stoffers..... anybody?

I'll see if I can find the thread of someone doing it.

Here is a quote from the above link... Hope this helps
"I took the bushings and the swing-arm pivot from the 125 to my machinist at work who bored them out to fit on a lathe. They need to have about a .005-.010 larger diameter than the swing arm pivot. Having a good machinist is necessary for these types of projects. If you don't know one allready, get in the phone book and start looking around. I've found that the best (and least expensive) machinists usually have the least expensive looking ad in the yellow pages. Most shops these days have CNC capabilities, but most of what you will need can be done on a manual lathe and mill. These bushings are as hard as the nubs of hell so don't get any ideas about buying a big drill bit down at the local home depot. Once they are cut, they are much thinner, but this should be fine since they only act as a wear barrier between the swingarm pivot, and the soft cast aluminum case. The swing arm pivot does not pivot in them, but all the vibration of the engine would eat away at the aluminum case without having them."

i dont have a set or cr500 bushings to begin with. I previously had my motor swapped into a completely different chassis and the custom bushings are of no use for a gen 3 swap. Stoffers is out of stock at the moment so im hoping roosty can find a set. otherwise im going to puck up the gen3 chassis this weekend and i will try to make those bushings fit my cases, atleast i will have the general dimensions at that point for my machinist to work off of.
I've got one set laying around someplace.
I'll see if I can find them and get some measurements.

They dont fit the 85 cases.gixxerbob wrote:id be more than happy to take them off your hands if they are already machined to fit 1985 cases to a gen 3 swingarm bolt $$$$$
I just drilled the cases out with a 13/16 bit, and tapped the bushings in.

im just going to drop my motor/swingarm off at the machine shop.gixxerbob wrote:i thought about boring out my cases and fitting gen3 bushings but my motor is fully assembled and powdercoated and i don't really want to got that route.
nonetheless i thank you guys for looking. if you ever do end up finding the diaghrams for the bushings it would be cool to sticky them in the thread.
Call me a hack, but a 13/16th bit and a cordless drill worked fine for me.

i ended up having my cousin bring it to work and drill press it. its a big press and he laid the motor on its machined stator cover surface. He ended up drilling it to 15/16....... im not doing a gen3 build as planned and needed to make more room for bushing thickness cause it will have a thicker swingarm bolt...... more details to come in my build thread soon.
