Need bike specifications

Post by jbsleddin »

Yes, I'm aware that this is not the "YZ 80 Riders" site, but I'm in the middle of a project and am having difficulty locating the info I'm after. I've already posted on another general know-nothing site with no feedback, but figure there's plenty of knowledge here. The bike is an 84 YZ 80 and I'm replacing crank bearings and looking into using a spare crank that I got with the parts motor. Problem is, the one in the bike was a 39K which I've resaerched to be 84-89 and the one I want to use is a 5X2 which I believe is 82-83. Not sure if there is a stroke difference or what the difference if any, and can't find any tech specs online. What I'm after may be the "bible" of all bikes, that way I don't have to piss around asking for info every time..... :P Either way, any input here is appreciated, even if it be ridicule.

Go to www.boats.net and look up the crank you actually need.
Click on the part number and it will show you every bike it was used on.
Obsolete parts can be had at speedandsport and northwestvintage.

Actually that is what I was using, either boats.net or cmsnl.com parts fiche, but neither of them provide the specs, just part #'s and diagrams. I am searching for specs from yamaha which will tell me the changes from year to year etc. The engine cases from the two separate engines are identical, but so far the only difference I've noticed (with the naked eye) would be the crank main gear and clutch basket drive. The gears are easily swappable, I just don't want to use the crank assembly if there has been a rod change or ????

I used to have a 5X2! 1982 YZ80 - 1st year of water-cooled. Danny Graves' learning bike - LOL.

I am not sure what changed between the early years though. No power valves yet - I'm sure thats where major changes took place.

www.yamahaenduro.com has a lot of guys that probably have that information.
But, I've about been banned twice so, be careful until you get your info.

I knew you're a good shit. You take the harassment and are still willing to help out. So once I get the info I need I should tell them to piss off and then whip out my "Fatty"?

In all honesty it's a good place with a lot of information but, sometimes they get on my nerves with all the ass kissing and politeness.
Also, somebody on marks swapmeet will have that info, you just have to wait till that individual sees your post.

btw-I scored a nice original pipe and silencer from a friend that had it hanging in his shop.
I've been walking by it for 2 years! :)
Hey, check that carb and let me know what size it is.
I was told mid to late 80's YZ80 carbs were the hot ticket on AT1MX's
Here's a little taste of what it is. Sorry for any hijack.

I don't have a spare carb to sell you, only came with an extra engine. No problem on the thread hijack, seems like a fairly common occurrence around here.
