How bad is it for the back of axle/swingarm, to be cut open?

Post by AURORA »

As you know I just got a 2001 CR5.

The previous owner cut the very aft portion of the swingarm off. His paddle tire was hitting the shock/swingarm linkage. So he cut, for more tire clearance, the very aft portion off and reinforced the channel with steel?

My concern is the lack of strength and or rigidity with the back end open?

What is your opinion?

How much does a used swingarm go for?

Below are links for pictures?

ya, i'd run it too. if you were super scared you could just buy those steel bolt in parts from the backside, I've always seen them pull foreward, never backwards

I'd run it too, but if you are worried about it get another one. You should be able to get one for a steely for $50 or under.

That's how Honda built the XR swingarm, likely it'll be just fine unless you will be jumping any fountains or canyons in the near future

Freeride, is your swingarm a 91? I think they might be different, in appearance at least, not sure about any other differences
