'90 MX helmet cam

Post by Kartwheel68 »

This is from a race a couple of weekends ago on a friends '90 CR500. I was timid on the start because I had never ridden this bike before, heck, I had not even ridden a modern open class bike before. I have a '79 Maico 440, but its nothing like a CR500. Once I got a lap or so in, I started riding a bit more aggressively, but by the time I catch the guy on the RM250, I was gassed. I'm 43 years old and I'm basically a 125 specialist, so I was fanning the clutch out of corners and revving the bike way too much, old habits die hard.

The bike is set up for a 220lb rider and I am only 145lbs, so I was not totally comfortable on it, but I liked it so much I bought a '92 3 days later.

Not bad, I know what you mean about bad habits.
I raced my 480 at Diamond Dons like my '74 YZ125A and it almost bit me off a jump.
Matter of fact, I flipped my '92 in the front yard a while back.
I'm gonna write "short shift" on the fuel tank just so I don't forget
btw-'92 is good for MX, it's got the close ratio tranny.

It sounds a little blubberly..... you should be passing riders with a blip of the throttle.

Drop the needle a bit.

It was very blubbery, but it was a borrowed bike and I didnt want to start tearing it apart. It probably needs a new float needle and a different slide needle. He also had the clamps too low on the forks and the rear preload was way too much for my weight, so it wanted to tuck the front end really badly. I rode a 45min GP and four regular motos, so I didnt have time during the day to fiddle with it. My '92 is even worse, but it needs a fresh top end and I am going to put a PWK on it.
