silencer help

Post by tipfinchy »

hi guys
not to long ago i got myself a 07 450r framed 500
it came fitted with a fmf gold series gnarly pipe and a ti carbon yoshi twin silencer system (crf 250 i think) looks great but runs shit
so what i need to know is what silencer to go for , will i need to modify it to fit the frame or make a bracket to suit the silencer
dep are just up the road from me but are the only manufacturer listing a hybrid silencer i can find , anyone know if you can mix n match ?

cheers guys

if you have an FMF pipe, I'd try to match it up with the silencer that was designed for it. the system as a whole was or at least should have been designed to give optimum performance and changing the length will make a difference. pipe is designed around the pressure wave moving through the pipe at or near the speed of sound, that speed changes with temperature and pressure.
I'm no expert on this by any means just some info that rattles around in my head, the info may not be totaly accurate but do a little research there are a few free pipe building programs and books written by people with alot more know how than be.
Once you have the correct setup, then you can work on the jetting.

Cheers!

Hi tipfinchy,
Taffymoto from you neck of the woods has a similar system on his Black Diamond cr500 conversion, if it is the same Taffy from the Berg forum i used to go on he may have done something different, Taffys bike looked nice but that doesn't amount to speed, but in the Berg world he has a fair bit of street cred and would have thought that either worked and is still on there or was crap and is now in the Thames. Your bike looks nice from what I can see.

i gotta agree with kuma, if you got a fmf front pipe then get a fmf silencer. on my 07 cr500 i got a full fmf set up and i love it ! all i had to do was cut the pipe comin off the silencer and rotate it and weld it back on, job done !
if it dont smoke its a joke

Agree with Brit, lots of detail. Digging the red Cables, sucks the silencer set up doesn't work because that looks cool too.

That thing is too pretty! Nice work!

Another opinion of: match the silencer to the pipe for best performance.
The engineers test them that way to get the most out of it.

Sucks that dual setup doesn't work because it looks tits.

hi pstoffers
that looks good mate , is it a straight bolt on ?
i ask as when i phoned a fmf dealer in england today he said about a six digit # on the bracket which i,ve now found 05/10/020026 ,hoping he will be back in touch tomorrow as i emailed it to him when i got in from work

does the # mean anything to anyone on here?

thanks again guys you,re educating the uneducated!!

I cut off the one that is made on the silencer. The one that is welded on I cut off and relocated it to the fender bolt. I got a longer bolt and used a spacer I made as well.
