Long Rod in Short Rod Motor ??

Post by DieHard2Smoke »

I thought I read something about it but couldnt find the thread.

is it possible to run a long rod in a short rod motor with a spacer or other modification?

There is a gen 1 125 for sale dirt cheap in the area and debating on doing a conversion and turning it into a track bike. Definitely like longer rod powerband for the track, short rod powerband can get me into some trouble sometimes on a track.

i think cometic has all the stuff you need. seems like someone around here has done it but i cant remeber who. this is only a guess but might need longer cases studs. hard to say if head stay holes will need reamed alittle. not sure about air box alignment. pipe brackets. spidey senses tell me everything will be roughly 5mm higher so a few mods could be necesary.

cometic sells the kit, I ran it in my old gen-1. The studs were a little on the short side but still long enough.
here is the info in my e-mail from the cometic guy:
This is what you will need for a 5mm spacer kit:

1 - B0016188A $28.25 each
2 - B0016012F $6.30 each (12.60)
