Proper Ring Installation Question on Vertex

Post by plynn41 »

Finally got around to buying the parts for my '85 motor rebuild. Got the 1.5mm over Vertex piston in today--beautiful piece! Someone please verify for me which side of the rings is up? The meeting edges are beveled on one side, and there is a stamped circle on one side of the rings also. I assume the bevel and stamped circle are meant to be on the bottom?

I believe it's bevel up. Look at the ring locating pin on the back of the piston. The pin will rest inside the bevel... ie If the pin is in the top of the ring groove, bevel up. If it's in the bottom of the groove, bevel down.

just a note to mention, every ring I have ever come across, was marks facing up install.
