Man I hate that shit.
I just don't understand why anyone likes to fight the terrain like that.
I've been out twice this year with some guys that are constantly trying to get me to body slam a damn tree.
The last place, the guy charged us a membership fee and a riding fee.
Later he said most of his riders are new.
DUH!!!
The place was a shithole.
He went through with a chainsaw and didn't remove the stumps.
So, the trail is ran where the stumps are. Next comes the ruts then comes the rain and then you have stumps protruding in the middle of the ruts.
I stalled and rolled over the hill last weekend. Got going and hit my head on a tree growing at a 45 degree angle across the trail. My chin was on the tank and I still hit my head.
When I got to the top of the hill I flipped out and started yelling "get me the fuck out of here".
Everyone was stunned. I was serious. I was going to hurt the next sob that took me on a fuckin goat trail.
I mean really, what is the fuckin challenge? To not slam a tree? Maybe to not destroy a rim?
My challenge is riders of equal ability passin each other on a trail or better yet, a track.
Piss on "single track".

To each his own. Much like I don't understand Duners.

My perspective:
Any schmuck can ride a track. In fact that's exactly why I avoid the tracks. Dumbasses out there riding well beyond their abilities needlessly endangering me. I prefer to keep my destiny in my own hands as much as possible thank you very much.

Scenery. Recreation. Being challenged at my own pace.
These are why I love singletrack.

Singletrack is not for people with no discipline or self control.
Hell, motorcycles are not for those people.

Can you see things like this at your track?

Hey, if you like it that just means you won't be at the track in my way.
The episode you posted was a clusterfuck just like I was talking about.
Oh, and NO not just anybody can ride a track. I think that's why they stay in the woods. True, they are allowed but you can spot the newbies or wild ones.
I don't like wild riders either.
What's worse is riding a fuckin monster like a CR500 on a damn goat trail.
A CR500 is like "tittaes", you have to set them free.
Honey Lake, Glen Helen, the open desert are just some examples.
Single trail? ha ha ha......................piss on single trail.
The riding I do and have always done, is to practice my skills and have fun doing it trying to get better and do things I may not have done.
I've already slammed my hand in a car door-check,
I've already been kicked in the balls-check,
I've taken a fucking monster on a "single trail"=check.
I think the discipline you speak of is not beating the shit out of the guy leading the rest of the pack.

Single Trail=Slap your head, hands and bike on trees and big ass rocks.
Pioneer through woods that have not been cleared or maintained.
Try, try, try to see some scenery if you can take your eyes off the fucking so called "trail" for fear of busting your bike or body.
The term single trail sounds so nice though, doesn't it?

Maybe, I took a little offense with the discipline remark, dude.
The video was a clusterfuck and I've been there. That was the point.

I'm sorry but that's just not my thing.
You guys are ok unless you lead me into that shit.

Anyway, here's some nice scenery I've never seen in the woods.

I like single track, it takes finesse to go fast and look smooth on single track with the 500 and the nice thing about it is you see something new every time, motocross is nice too but doing laps on the same coarse a bunch of times gets old after awhile, don't get me wrong I will still ride the track every so often to cross train but I would much rather be on the trails with natural road jumps and stumps and logs to jump over and trees to dodge all while going as fast as I can. to each his own I guess .02

Well, here is a still from the helmet cam behind me.
The stump before the root messed me up and the front tire slid along the root and washed out. The rear tire slid along the root and the end result was a headplant on a tree.
The trail doesn't look too bad from the pic and this wasn't the worst part but anyone that knows, pics can be deceiving.

Also, this was on a fresh 2001 CR250. It's jetted perfectly and the throttle response is the crispest I've ever had. It wanted to standup with me over stumps and roots.

the most painful long lasting wreck ive ever had was in 1st gear on the lawn, i dont ride the track, altho i'm told the one on my driveway is the best outdoor track in canada.
I was giving a gf shit for not wanting to wear her gear while i rode out the lane to get mine, had an ankle screwed for a long time. I like the bush, scrub not so much, but get me on a deer trail and we're gone. i dont have forest, but it looks like fun. Hit an open road for a mile or so then into tight trees, whatever, its getting seat time and its great

Damn dude. that's harsh. Sorry your experience sucked. Methinks what you really needed was different riding buddies that weren't out to kill you first time out.

Riding singletrack and reading unknown terrain on the fly will make you a much better rider on the track.

Riding the track and honing your skills with sheer repetition will make you better on the trail.

They really do go hand in hand.

I've done my time on the track. I raced as a kid for 4 years and was winning my class. Then I moved up to an older group and was winning there too, but the kids in that class were out of control and I no longer felt safe and gave it up. Very similar to your experience in the woods feeling like they were going to kill you, so my experience was on the track.

If I had access to a track with riders I felt I could trust, I'd be all over it. I do not ride with retards on or off the track. Simple as that.

I'm just saying that I hope you find some buddies who can take you out to try it again on not so nasty stuff. I really do think you are missing the boat.

For those of you who think I'm being a hypocrite for what I did to Rosco, that was entirely different. Rosco was practically jizzing his pants on that ride.

I'm gonna get a trials bike and a riding jersey lettered up.

Yeah, that's the stuff. Looks almost identical to my last ride.
Mostly 1st gear, occasionally 2nd. What a waste.
Like killing cockroaches with a sledgehammer.
Don't need a CR500 for that stuff, maybe an XR200-250.
All that was missing was rain to turn the ruts into slimy traps.
I want to see the video of the bike breaking down 20 miles from the truck.
I don't wish it on anybody but I'm sure it happens.
Nobody posts a video of pushing their bike through that crap.
Even the six days guys have support for that.
I actually would enjoy that type stuff on a Scorpa T-Ride.

Yawn.

Why, exactly, do you say that? For the their ability to grunt along slowly? You think they have more bottom end grunt than a CR500?

Now think about that for just a minute...

I LOVE my CR for its ability to crawl through that stuff and not die. It just keeps pulling and pulling and pulling. AND it is still has the fun factor for the adrenaline junkie in me, not a snooze fest like riding an XR.

All it takes is a little bit of throttle control.

Like Mojo said the 500 has the ability to lug around but I like it on the trails for when you get in a tricky spot it has a light switch powerband which will save your ass if you know how to utilize it. I ride my 250 more on the trails because its easier for me to handle since Im only 6' 145lbs, plus I bought my 500 for hillclimbing sometimes I will ride it stock so I can practice being more nimble and focusing on all around riding instead of just hillclimbing. I LOVE TRAILS, whens the next hoon fest I'm in!

looks like fun
the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.
