hello ,i got the frame welded up the other day it came up good, i seem to be still fucking around with the 450 radiaters did u use the 450 ones or change them, i can get them to fit but its alot of mucking around, whats your take on the rads , i havnt seen alot of 450 frames done so my ideas on what rad to use is limited the 250r 00 onwards seems to be a better choice but ive only seen them in parts pictures
ive linked these builds to an old saying[with a pound of butter and enough persistance you can fuck a cat] not that i do that off course

Hi Matt, I used CRF250R radiators From a 2006. The right side is he same as the 450. The left one is about 30mm shorter on the bottom. The mounting points are exactly the same spacings on both. When I welded the bottom mounting tabs on I turned them around, faced them forward in stead of back. This moved the bottom of the radiators forward a few mm and gave better fit for bottom hose. I also had to alter the hose mounts on the radiator to mimic the cr500 set up. Hope this helps mate.

yes i know exactly what your talking about, the 250 radiators certainly the left side sounds like it makes the job a little easier and a better fit, both the 450 rads seem to hang out a little more a the bottom [tanks are very close to the Y, and the right bottom tank tapers off the wrong way so i cut the tank off and turned it around for a better fit, but the trouble is these radiators on mine are knocked around, matter a fact for an 07 model the bike its fucked everthing on it has to be repaired before i start lining parts up its been a pain in the arse, but what im thinking is to get a set of the 40% bigger xspeed radiators or alike these are chinese made so im a little nervous parting out the cash but what from what i read they are a good fit and serve the standard bikes well, i also noticed the bottom tanks on the 250f ones [xspeed] taper in giving extra clearance at the Y , i should be able to run the left side at the standard height, have you any experience with these china rads, i will post some more pics soon thanks for the help matt

I have seen a set of Chines Radiators....buy'm you'll be shocked...there realy good for there price, you'd pay a damb sight more if an Aussie Alloy fabricatore made'm.

yes good stuff i went through all the feedback on the rads i could find it was all good so i brought some sunday night, so im waitn for them, i still may need to modify the tanks a bit but ill wait an see

I can't help say the polished parts are beautiful, even if not practical.
Take lots of pics before you put it in the dirt bro!

bitchin . check the pipe/tire for clearance before you get too far along. or maybe you already did ?

All the polishing cost uder $200, mates rates! Frame had a few blemish's so we decided to polish them out.

There is heaps of pipe to front wheel clearance, it dosnt seem to be an issue with the 450's.

The build is on the back burner till after the Finke.
Those gen 1 front mounts i got off you fit the crf 250 very well.

it got me to finke and back.
the bike was fast but my fitness was up to shit.
i'll be back there again with fitness to see if i can do better

Ok Shaggy, Better luck next time. It is a very hard race, you need fitness and good luck as well.

Your head stays are rippers mate. I recon they help minimise vibration.

Guys, I am wanting to fit an oversize gas tank to my 06 crf450 conversion. The standard tank fits without hitting the full size plug. I require a 3 gallon tank or there abouts. I am also running a steering dampner.

Is there a tank that will bolt straight up?

Is there a particular brand of tank that holds up better when heating and reforming the bottom?

Maybe there is a tank that has the fuel outlet in a position, located further from the spark plug?

Any advice will be greatly apreciated.

Have now changed to billet frame rails after breaking two sets of box type rails.
