Aluminum Exhaust Flanges

Post by AlisoBob »

When these were first offered.... Brit, myself, Bigpower and other's were labeled "Haters" because we all thought they were junk...

1. Expensive
2. You already HAVE a exhaust flange... right?
3. ZERO performance boost
4. Aluminum dosest last in high heat / vibration applications...
5.
6.
7.
8..........

Regardless, allot of folks on Tracy's site couldnt get enough of them..... It became the "must have" item of the week.... ( weak?)

Well, Tracy himself has a new opinion...

I guess he's a "Hater" now too....

Gee, another OEM part that outperforms ...who woulda' thought?

OEM isn't ALWAYS the best. On the early Gen. 3 CR250's (02-03), the stock flanges broke on numerous bike. Some even had pieces go into the engine. But, never heard of a problem on the 500's.
Too much of a puss for a 500!

Well unless I missed the point, those were supposed to stop leaks. On the other site guys mentioned, "not a single drop of goo after one ride." Are you kidding? After one ride huh...

I put some high temp gasket sealant around the manifold when I put the pipe back on. Not a single indication of leakage in 5 years. I still use the original steel bands. I've got the pipe off it right now and I see a black smear just below the flange. Guess it's time to replace those bands, or maybe I didn't use enough sealant the last time I put it together? Whatever the case it wouldn't cross my mind in a million years to buy a special billet alloy exhaust flange. It makes about as much sense as a BBR gas cap.
