BRP goes down....

Post by AlisoBob »

So I take the Hondapotumus out for a ride. I pull up at my buddy's house to meet up, and his eyes bug out at the sight of me dumping oil all over his driveway...

WTF!!!!

Its pouring out from the stator cover!!!

So I check the oil level and I have enough to blast back home, so off I go.

I get home, and pull off the stator cover, its full.

So I kick it over, and hear a "wheezing" sound coming from behind the flywheel.

Its Sunday, its late.. I call Cycle City, Cycle Gear, Champion Honda, Mission Motorsports.... no one is open to sell me a flywheel puller for this thing..

:x x 650

So I go into " Nig-gyver" mode at Pep Boys and Auto Zone.

I find a drain plug for some kind of Accura piece of shit. Its 20mm x 1.5 pitch. PERFECT

Image

I put a dab of grease on the end of it and my flywheel is jacked right off is two seconds, with a $1.99 drain plug

:D

I crank it again, and see oil burbling from the seal

Image

I do the ol' "drywall screw seal puller trick" ( My boy is blown away by this....)

Image

and what do I find?

That spring thingy has unscrewed itself, and lost the ability to hold the seal lip onto the crank surface

New seal was $7. Rode 20 miles last night... its all good.

Weird , huh?

Brit wanted me to :
1. Reassemble spring and reposition it in seal

2. Silicone drywall screw hole shut

3. Pound it back together....

Yea, no shit.... and I'm not kidding either.... and neither was he!

the 450 will have less power and will be harder to start, and will be heavier, but to make up for it it will require more maintenance.

My brother just had his seal go last week when riding.
I've never had problems with mine.

Nice afroengineering....
