So here's my ride report..... it starts with eriC and me not seeing eye to eye on things.... I think some bike issues + bad weather = postpone, eriC thinks I'm a homo.... fair enough but he wont take my call, so I engage the turbo doosh-drive.

Al plays peace keeper and convinces me to go on the ride. In actuality I dont want to go, but I also dont want Al to sit t home after he worked long and hard to get his bike ready... so I tell him I will go, but I'm splitting at the last gas stop. He says ok, but now I'm screwed as I have payroll, some bids, and year end paperwork to complete. I go to work and get it done, but not its too late to go to bed. So I stay up, watch some baseball DVD's, load my shit, and head to Al's house. He shocked I'm on time, he dosent know I've yet to go to bed.

On the ride out to the staging area we talk about lots of stuff from the pre ride pizza party to Al's service in the U.S. military. The pizza party was pretty much a bust. I would have focused on getting everyone to properly prep their bike, what kind of pace and terrain to expect, and do's and donts of the trail.... but hey.... thats just me. Al's stotys of being in Hungry and Romainia were fastenating.. thanks for sharing.

We pass Hammer on the freeway..... frggin' NUTZ!!!

We get there early and stop at Subway for a snack. Some pimp and his mudshark bitch are holding us up. It reminded me of another time Al and I were together at the Stater Bros in Mojave, and some guy went to his car to get a gun to shoot me because I told him he was a jack-hole. He's sitting in his car, pretending to reach under his seat to pull his piece out, I'm taunting him that if he does, I'll beat the shit out of him with it.... Al looks at me like " Will you friggin' knock this macho shit off!!". I dont want a replay at Subway, so I go drop a duce. When I come out, Al is chuckling that brother -man almost got in a fight over some avacado, and then had his credit card declined 3 times, Only to pay in cash anyways. It was probably best I hit the shitter.

So we all group up at Del Taco, eriC walks in and approaches me with his hand out for a shake. I'm still in turbo-doosh mode and leave him hanging there, loookin' like the greeter at Wal-Mart. Eric gets pissed, Al rolls his eyes at me, everyone else turns their heads..... what ever.

So we leave for the staging area, my wife calls and I tell her about the hand shake things... she not impressed either. Al gives me another dose of eye roll.

We get to the staging area and suit up. I go over to eriC and pat him on the back, it dosent go very far..... fair enough.

So we blast off, and 16' into the ride we try to hop some train tracks nestled on top of some steep gravel. Al eats shit immediatly and snaps off his front brake hose. I kinda bunny hop over the first rail only to get stuck between the rails. This isnt reccomended as this is a pretty busy set of tracks..... I pop the clutch a few times, and just spit gravel out the back. On the 4th try , the bike hops over the rail easy..... too easy..... its eriC giving me a push... Thanks buddy....

So we ride a bit, we follow the tracks on a gravel easement about 10' wide right next to the tracks... I'm going about 30 mph, and a train passes me going 45mph about 3' to my left... HOLY SHIT!! That dosent happen when you ride single track!! At the first chance I get, I hop off the gravel to put more distance between myself, and a million tons of unforgiving steel.

We go a little bit more and some guy goes mud bogging, and aways after that and eriC gets a pinch flat. EriC's motor is getting louder, so he decides to slow his pace and save the machinery... . good thinking.

Al and I have pretty good pace at this point as we have gotten use to our new bikes by this point.... I hear a horn honking... (BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP...BEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!) and I figure its Al coming around me..... nope.... its Pecker on his KaTooM. Too funny!!!

We stop a few times for gas and jerky sticks and at the 70 mile mark I peel off from the group and head back to the barn. Of the 70 miles 25 was pretty fun, the other 45 miles were like being on a two lane dirt road. I had alot of time to think about eriC, and how much this ride meant to him. Before I split I tell him I will take his sick bike home, and he can contuine on my healthy one. He says " No thanks..." but then adds.... " Thanks though, that meant alot." Things arent back to normal, but its a start.

So I split and hit a county road , to a freeway, to the staging area. its father than I thought, and ran the fuel level down lower than I am comfortable with in the middle of know where. As I load my bike, I see some serious storm clouds on the horizon. I know Wed. is going to be ugly.

I head home ...

The next day I watch the "SPOT" tracker sit , and sit, and sit before it starts moving..... I find out later that Craig RODE the 300 + miles back home alone..... Wow!!

Al told me about the freezing ride to the AVI, and how when they were in sight of it, it seems to move away at the same rate they rode. I also heard about eric'S snoring, the 3 a.m. fire alarm, smokey casinos, losing bets, and other experiences. When morning broke they used a crane to get soliD out of bed and with the weather looking crappy, it was decided to call the return trip off.

So , its in the record books. It could have been worse.

Nobodys bike puked its guts 30 miles from the nearest road. Nobody got hit by a train, or slept in the desert. Nobody got arrested or lost a tooth and everybody was frends when it was all said and done..... even eriC and I.....

What did I learn??? I got MUCHO RESPECT for Jay Lewis who single tracks his XR650R. Its no CR500AF, but he makes it look like one, Fo' Sho!

You da' Man Jay!!!

I need to soften up the forks, and firm up the shock and my bike will be set up well for this kind of thing....

I too am looking foreword to the next ride... X-Planes.... here we come!!!

If anyone had done this ride before then what to expect would have been provided but seeing as this was the first time any of us were on the trail it was new to everyone. I figured everyone knew what to bring on a trail ride... but hey that is just me. Things to bring on the ride was included in the emails I sent but I guess people don't read those. Based on the comments, I will be expecting a full mile by mile terrain report for the X-plane ride.

I don't know who has been pissing in your cheerios but you need to treat your friend (Solid) better than some dude you pick up at Home Depot for $10 an hr. Solid had every right to not take your calls and call you a douche.

Having bikes with electrial issues, clogged airfilters, and missing bolts had nothing to do with having prior experience on the Mojave Trail.

Thats just maintenance 101.

As far as Eric, WTF do you know about what we spoke about?

The classic part of the trip was at 5 miles in when you looked at me and asked " So whats the head count that left the staging area?"
