85 HP figures

Post by asteroid500 »

Can some one please tell me the real factory Horse power figure.
The inanet is full of conflicting numbers even cc capacity, yeah by the way what is the actual cc of the 85?
Gotta get this sorted ..... trying to pin down a race number for my local VMX club .... going old school & loving it.

491 cc, as for horsepower, mine makes 99 at the rear wheel. I think a more realistic figure for a basically stock engine is around 55-60, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Once the beers and buddies come out, that number always seems to get inflated. :P

Not sure at all but my seat of the pants Dyno says the 85 was the nastiest 500 honda ever made. I had an 86 and my bud an 85 years ago and the 85 hit harder, it was actually harder to ride I was faster on my 86 but if you wanted to just shit and get that 85 was a bad boy. when I stepped up to a 92 off my 86 it felt tamed and linear in comparison to those early bikes.

Tharrell, your right, its a growing class for us older wanna still ride groupe,

im quicker on my 87 KX500, as its plusher, like riding a a couch, but id rather the CR as your average punter knows you've got to be a nut bag to want to ride one of those, the KTM's mental as we, was out yesterday with my mate Frank, riding my CR & KX for a few hrs, my 1st race is next week end, need to sharpen up .... he was blown away at the power of these bikes, but it came to him & was well on it.

Note the white rope on the handle bars ..... kicker gear is broken, have to tow start it.

We dynoe'd a stock 1991 with street tire and it gave 48 hp at the wheel. Mine gave 63 at the wheel, 1999 model, same engine but some work done to it of course.
