A few videos and write-up from Glen Helen's Two-Stroke Race

cmotoson here:

Thursday practice before the race:

Cmotodad and I had the bike dialed in (at least as dialed in as it gets for a CR500AF), I felt good on the starts once it got off the pad, and I was comfortable as well as confident in our setup. I was hoping for decent starts, a good day of two-smoke racing, and a top ten finish for our Gen3 500AF.

Race day, Moto 1:

Track was much slicker than previous practice sessions, so much so that by the first moto there was still moisture on the starting pad (not so good for the 500 monster...). The goal remained a top ten finish for the day. Got out of the gate decent, but really made up some distance with a clear shot into Glen Helen's notoriously long Talladega first turn. Drifted just wide enough to give Sleetdog and a few others the inside line (rookie move #1). I was content settling into spot #4 and figuring out the track for a few a laps, but made a major mistake just a few turns in (rookie move #2). I stayed right going through the finish line section as not to follow the race line and then simply lost the front end going into the right hand turn before the sand wash. All rider error. After losing the front end and taking an always-unexpected soil sample, the results are one broken clavicle, one broken thumb, no second moto, and a few too many weeks off the bike.

A Thank You to Glen Helen is in order, as they continue to support our sport with unique events such as their Two-Stroke and Vet National races. On the local level, it is quite difficult filling up a Pro gate and GH did an excellent job, with 25 Pro entries in total I believe.

Thank you for reading and see you all back on the track in a few weeks!
