Algava

Post by Mad Dog »

Algava broke his leg on Saturday, May 8th riding at Lake Silverwood / Pinnacles area on trail N17x.
Turns out to be more serious than originally thought.
He goes in for surgery tomorrow, Thursday.
Apparently his Tibia is displaced and not lining up correctly.
Needless to say he is a little down but he wanted me to post this and explain how it happened.
Ironically, it wasn't from a fall.
His foot was hanging off and he clipped the side of the hill, boulder, something and jerked it back around and snapped. He heard it.
After sitting in the trail and resting for awhile, he Manned up, fired the mighty 5 and rode it out to the jeep trail. (That's the way he wanted it!)
After another rest, he switched off for an easier ride back to the trucks.

It's bad enough to have an injury from a fall, but this???
Since he has so much time this last week he has been doing some research and found that his injury is not all that uncommon. It happens.
The lowered pegs are a particular problem. Now his pegs weren't lowered, but I thought this interesting as I have done it and I know others have also.
Comfort vs. safety??

Like I said, he's a little down so about showing some Hoon love and maybe saying few words to the man upstairs.

I also have lowered pegs, but I did mine in a rut, and ran my own leg over when the bike swapped North for South.

Call Danny Graves, he specializes in these....

It's crazy how things happen. I feel incredibly fortunate to have 35 years of riding and playing hard without ever having broken a bone. (knock wood) However, some of my worst injuries have come from the stupidest stuff. The worst one on record was actually out there in Az. at Bartlett.

Chin up Al, you'll be back out there tearing it up in no time.

After a week of cast I'm going in for surgery tomorrow morning, $2200 I wish I could have spent on something more exciting.
I have a bunch of mixed feelings right now, from the cost of it all to the inability to be there for my clients and my family
and the pain in the rear of having to jump everywhere and be depending on others.
To make things better, today I got a tichek for tinted windows while driving back from the Doc, did I piss someone off up there?
I'm so bummed to end this riding season like this, for what was the freakiest of the accidents, didn't see this one coming at all.
I'm thorn between my love for riding and the hammering of my wife and my parents telling me to grow up and sell my bikes.
I'M NOT READY FOR THAT YET
You guys out there be carefull because most of the time is not the gnarly stuff that gets you but the shit you give for granted
and it hits you when you feel most confident.
Enough of this, I won't be moaning anymore.
Thanks for the support

surgery went well.
Anestesia took forevar to wore off, very unconfortable with headaches and nausea all day yesterday night.
I'm over that today but I got to remember my Vicodin every 3-4 hrs or I feel like someone is stabbing my flesh with a hot knife.
So far so good, these eve will chase the Vicodin with a glass of wine, Dr's Bob prescription.
Thanks all for the support.

Hey, just found the thread. Hope your leg is doing good.
On the other thing, if you do get away from the bikes, you'll be back just like me and a bunch of other guys my age.
Only thing is you'll have a lot of catching up to do.
Like, what the fuck is MX3? Know what I mean?
I lost my balls after I healed up. I'm trying to get them back now.

Lot's of pain all over my bad leg, I think it' tendinitis or else, not sure.
F..ing doctor not returning my calls.
I'll be able to put some weight on my foot in about a week.
I hope to be able to ride mid next month, we'll see about the balls.

Hey, wanna know the shit about my accident?
The guy that hit me couldn't walk but he could ride.
He had hit a cable across a dirt road and it stopped him cold. He flew forward and broke his thigh.
He had all sorts of hardware in his leg and couldn't walk at all.
He was going the wrong way and we collided midair over a double.
Anyway, I'm back with a vengeance.
Best equipment, nice bikes, more sense.
Maybe the hiatus was a good thing for me.
You won't know about the balls thing until you get back on it.
