So you read my previous posts concerning the burnt clutch I thought I had. So this is a new Hinson basket with everything installed correctly, new OEM Honda fibers (the correct amount) and OEM Honda Steels, so the Honda shop I go to said that there is a steel plate as an optional CR 500 part that is...

At first the Honda shop gave me Aluminum, I took them back and told them I wanted steel so the replaced the stock Honda Aluminum plates with stock Honda Steel plates. I don't know what bike they are from and this could be the problem although they fit fine, (maybe from an XR or maybe Honda did offer...

These were stock Honda plates both fiber and steel. I replace the inner hub last year sometime so it's new, but not the pressure plate. I haven't ever heard of a problem with the pressure plate but I guess I will replace it as well. I will put a straight edge on it first though becuase warpage would...

So I just smoked a brand new OEM clutch (fibers and steels, they are steel not aluminum) but I think where I went wrong is using the stock (new) springs. Probably should have used heavy duty. I didn't make it one ride in the dunes and it was slipping bad. New Hinson basket as well. I will have to tr...

The TRX stock stroke crank with the artic cat rod balanced for the 95 mm rod done at Crank Works was going to be around $800.00 due to the work involved. Alot of the Saber motors run a destroked crank (destroked to 70 mm) and to get this crank done was going to be a grand. This Artic Cat rod uses a ...

More affordable (mainly the cranksaft) and this is going to be a duner on gas and I don't need 90 HP for this bike. They are having problems keeping the Sabers cool running gas and I don't want to have problems with it. This motor should be good for 75-80 HP on gas and that's plenty for what I'm goi...

most of the drag TRX guys run override trans and for some reason doing this mod to them helps their life. 2nd and 3rd gear on the countershaft are the only weak link and they have a billet 2nd-6th gear set you can buy. I still enjoy riding my TRX and am building one of Calvins Puma cylinders for the...

The TRX guys already have a CPI cylinder that mates up and is designed for a TRX bottom end and performs well. Why would you want to put a CR 500 non counter balanced 500 CC motor in a quad? You probably have seen tons of these over the years but you haven't talked to them about how many times they ...

I have a CR 500 and A TRX 250 and since this Saber cylinder is a direct bolt on cylinder for a TRX 250r, I don't see how it can be made to work on a 500. I know there are some machinist that can work miracles, but this one I would love to see. The 500 cases are so wide compared to 250's. There's a g...

It looks like your porting and head are stock, so I would keep your 55 pilot, 170-172 main, and switch out the stock needle which is a CGJ and go to a DGJ in the middle and work your way from there, especially if you are riding in the dunes. The D series needles are richer all over the band, if you ...

Did the 02 and newer CR 250's have the power jet carb? If so, I would not buy this ignition nor any years that had this feature. I know that 01 did not and looking at curves has a better over all curve than the years that had the powerjet carb. You take the CR 500 ignition off including the flywheel...

Danny, after I read this thread yesterday I went and looked to see if my Dyna 4 curve 2001 CR 250 CDI box would plug in with no other mods (I have this on my TRX 250r) and I it's a totally different plug. Now I understand how you did it using a older style 250 CDI box. Are the late 80's ignition dig...

McCoy's per formance is getting some props on the thread Saber cylinder on the 500 bottom end for the 599 saber. They have done a bunch of CR 500 work and had one of these motors in a TRX 250r frame years ago. They can do the override for you. I don't know their phone number, maybe someone can chime...

A motor builder I use builds alot of Suzuki quadzilla 500 motors and the drag race version the way the gear set is really can't be overridden so up till now, they need to use the clutch to shift. One bike in particular (a 650 cc) they used a air shifter just like you bought that used a spark retard ...

If this is a full on straight line hill drag bike, I wouldn't waste my time with the pingel air shifter and have someone cut you a override tranny that you can shift without using the clutch. I think the air shifter is going to be more trouble than it's worth. With a override you use the clutch to l...

Does anyone know the stock ignition curve for the 500? I would love to see this compared to the CR 250 curve. I have a 2001 CR 250 complete ignition on a 250r that I'm thinking of swapping over. The stator looks identical, and it's a digital system. I have a curve for it (well actually 4 curves for ...

Flag Holder for sand riding
No time to make a flag holder and I hate the axle mounted holder I have. I know there are some that are for our steel framed 500's that I believe mount along the silencer bolts or somewhere there abouts.
Can someone here tell me where to find one of these?

I notice you have a AMS Sand Snake rear tire. I started with one of these and my bike just buzzed it launching for racing. It also dug a trench I noticed when riding, this is with 7lbs air in it. I know everyone loves the Skat Trak's but talking to Glen at GSS, he told me to get a 5.6x18 10 paddle c...

hey Slomas, a bit off the subject but after looking at your forks I have a question. To cure the high speed wabbles (head shake) do you pull your forks up like you have there, or do you go the other way? I have my forks sticking up out of the triples I would say .040-.080 thousands. I get the wabble...

okay, I think I figured out my problem. I had my front sprocket on backwards. I didn't realize that the part the sticks out needs to be in the front and not up againist the case side of the motor. The chain was spaced out to far. Okay this is my first motorcycle in god knows how long. On all the 250...
