yup, DeWayne was the one who told me to put in a window and what size and where. I noticed that I got a lot more bottomend out of my motor after that but combined with my mikuni carb, it just contributed to the jetting nightmare. I actually liked the performance of the motor better without the windo...

that particular bike had an '86 motor and the 86 ignition was unique to the '86 500, '86-'88 250 and '86-'89 125. for that oneI just installed a '87 cr250 stator. for newer model bikes, most people have been installing the entire cr250 ignition which includes a lighter and smaller flywheel. the lat...

ignition can make a HUGE difference on a cr500. with all of my porting, exhaust and carb work the biggest difference was when I went with w cr250 cdi after everything else was done.

Doppler here hears what he wants to. I see a steelie upgrade as a huge waste of time and money, but obviously Doppler did not come here to really hear what the people who have ridden and built all of these bikes have to say and instead wants validation that swapping from an '89 steelie to a '99 stee...

I bought my gen-3 donor complete with a blown up topend for $700 and after selling the extras I made my money back and then some. The conversion cost around $150 when including all the chassis bearing I replaced, etc. Comparing that to buying a late steelie and having an '89 roller left over just se...

I bet that '89 could do just as well as the '99 with some fresh fork oil, proper setup and valving. I can tell you riding a steelie and say a gen-3 AF side by side is no compari...

I actually think a gen-3 250 is the easiest... if you search you'll find out why ;)
plus it makes a damn nice conversion.

I tried all sorts of combos and found that 14/49 on a W/R set was pretty good everywhere... a little tall for the hairy shit and a little low for open fire roads.
