It still makes a difference what year you're referring to. I don't know the exact breakdown but early '90's models had a much lower 4th and 5th gear ratio than the later versions.

Depends on the year and countershaft size. What year 500?

Having said that, 41T would be ridiculous. If I put a 41 on my '01 it would probably just be getting on the pipe at about 100mph in 5th...

Re: riding tips that made me better

#1 keep feet on the pegs unless you are 1/2 a second away from hitting the ground, standing helps lots, if you lose balance and HAVE to take a foot of the pegs put ALL your weight on the foot thats on the peg #2 keep a few fingers on the clutch at all times, use it lots, even more #3 know how to ba...

Re: Iggys down but not out

Damit! My worst cash to date. I'm lucky though. A few changes to GH today and as always I look the track over before heading out. The only changes were the double between the hills and the tunnel hump back onto the start straight. Well by the time I got back to the tunnel hump I forgot that it fall...

That looks like a smokin' deal. With that parts list he must have close to $10K in that bike.

Shame to let it go for $4K, but a great deal for the buyer.

I wonder if that black plastic (or anything else) still looks that good 7 years later...

I've considered running a pro circuit or FMF turbine core spark arrestor.

I can't speak from experience but I think that might put just the right amount of mellow in the otherwise rather abrupt power delivery.

Looks more like bad aerodynamics than massive horsepower.

That thing was literally flying. It left the ground from lift not horsepower.

That's one of the most dangerous things about riding at night...what might be in the road. At that speed, maybe it would be better not to see debris in the road, because manuevering to avoid it would: a) take too long. b) probably send you off the road anyways. c) cause you to shit your pants, eithe...

And that's where I disagree. At race's end, I'm far more pleased with the handling ability of my bike. Usually saying between breaths, "damn this thing handles like a son-of-a-bitch for a 500cc two smoke". I absolutely, positively could not ride as hard, for as long, and finish as good if...

It might be "mechanically sound", but even in those pics it looks a little hammered. Why would it need a new cylinder unless it was trashed? You gotta ask yourself; Self...if the cylinder was toast, what about the crank bearings? The list goes on. For a $2500 motor, you gotta see it in per...

The pipe basically fits up on an AF. you have to carefully cut off the rear mount and maybe have to mod the front mount a bit. But its really quite simple. Save yourself some $$ and do it yourself. BTW, your steely is super clean - you getting ready to AF it? Yeah, an AF would be cool...and I may d...

Steelie to AF Chamber Modification

OK experts.... I was talking to a guy at Service Honda about what parts I would need to send them to build me an AF. He said the FMF Gnarly that's currently on my '01 steelie wouldn't work and that they fit their own custom pipes. Shurely they must start with a standard pipe and modify it. What has ...

The only reason you can get away with saying a steelie chassis isn't worth much is because most of them have been beaten, hammered, and otherwise generally trashed by ham fisted creatins. "Super clean" is a relative term. Certainly, if you get a "super clean" (post '92) steelie f...
