they come in a nice box, the cans come off and machine out the cases for you Good to know! This motor has almost no run time on it and I got the OEM crank as well so I can swap it out when I split the cases to sort out the trans. I need to make a list of all the info I pick up on the forums so I do...

No love for the Hot Rods crank? I thought I read on the other site that they were OK.

Picked up another one

Picked this up yesterday for a song: https://bannedcr500riders.com/images/auto/4100e4ef4221819b1974b95bebe33863.jpg It's titled as a 98 but as far as I can tell it's all 1990 except the frame so someone must have swapped a 98 frame onto a 90 for some reason. The PO bought it in parts and cleaned/gre...

you'd be dissapointed if you'd been one of the guys who'd bought one and already liquified the stator after teadious hours of learning the kicking dance to start it  I'm curious... I thought the newer models of the SH ignition had most of the bugs worked out? I've been wanting to pick one up ...

There is a thread on Thumpertalk by motojase, he purchased a "complete bike" from MPS and it turned into a nightmare, including having to redo most of the motor mounts just to get the motor to bolt into the frame.

Linkage changes

Just received some 98 suspension components and other bits and pieces to update my 91. I know there were bearing changes but did the dimensions of the linkage components change? Just wondering if I'm screwing up by not upgrading the linkage with the shock.

That should help for future reference. KZ3 was the casting mark on the 95+ "arm rod sub assembly" and the 96+ "shock arm sub assembly."

1995+ cases are bare, no cases have ever been clear Hmm interesting. So if a guy was to remove the paint from his cases like OP did would he have to worry about any corrosion issues? I kind of like the look of the bare cases but if it's going to be a maintenance nightmare then I'll just leave mine ...

I've heard the later model cases are actually clear coated, any plans to coat your cases to keep them from getting corrosion?

Another newb

Greetings all. A short while back I saw a Craigslist ad for a street legal CR500 and thought "now that would be fun" so I started searching around and ended up with this: https://bannedcr500riders.com/images/auto/8db092e46bca738f41e3dcf853073827.jpg She's a 91 that had been barn stored sin...
