Antifreeze
This link: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/13/125/7384/ITEM/Maxima-Coolanol-Anti-Freeze.aspx states that this antifreeze provides "optimum rust and corrosion protection for all aluminum and magnesium motorcycle and ATV liquid cooled engines" This is why I bought this. Either way if ...

Kicker Engagement Point
I started my bike yesterday - I have a 1985 engine in a 1997 frame and replaced the internal starter assembly with one from a 1995. I also have a new kicker that sits right between the pipe and tank. The problem is the kicker engages too far back to get a full kick. I could not get the bike started ...

FYI for MG Clutch Cover Owners
Maxima Coolanol is magnesium safe so if you have a fairly new MG cover like me and want to wait to upgrade to AL this is your coolant. I have found that MG safe coolants are not easy to find.

Clutch Rod
I was wondering about this when I rebuilt my 85 but luckily mine came right out with my fingers. I always run some slack in the lever - but have felt many levers even on new bikes that were bar tight.

Just for fun I tried the same tester on my 670 skidoo engine using electric start and it read the same - around 130 to 135. That is either an awful coincidence or a crappy tester. I vote for the later.

The kicker bounces like a ball when you push on it and it certainly feels as much or more than the rebuilt 89 engine I had in my AF. That engine ran great once I got it jetted properly. I have it ready to start now so if if it ever warms up here I will try it. Mine with new top end on a 2000 motor w...

There are a lot of variables involved for sure. I am going to ride it - if it hauls my arms out of their sockets I will be happy - if not I will look into it.

Bore
Then the bore is round, and its sealed. There is no "break in" on good machine work. If you want more compression, kick it harder... Seriously, push the kicker over on the compression stroke by hand. Push it in little "bumps" and when you release it.. it will push back. I...

I just finished rebuilding my 1985 CR 500 engine I have in a 1997 frame. I checked everything in the bottom end, put new starter gear, clutch kit, all new OEM seals and gaskets, new water pump shaft and seals and a new kicker. I also got a freshly rebored cylinder, new 90 mm vertex piston and rings,...

I cannot obtain an OEM center crankcase gasket from my local dealer for my 1985 CR500. Can I use the 89-01 crankcase gasket and just trim off the excess for the increased 5mm cylinder deck height?

its a pain in the nuts for the guys with no bridge  wossners are drilled now too I didn't think about that - may have been all the beer in me last night. Is it the difference in cast versus forged (expansion) that causes one to require oil holes for the bridge and the other (Vertex / OE...

What else was going on Phil?? My bore was not round - when I put the new top end in it - it ran fine for a while but when the rings wore in the compression dropped. When full of oil the compression was high enough for it to start sometimes. In addition to this I originally had a spark issue that I ...

Interesting side note... I had a PJ on my 500 and felt it was a little dirty down low. Had a 50 pilot, A/S at 1/34 out, 1369 needle top clip (lean) Bike started and idled great just felt fat on bottom, I assumed the the shared idle choke circuit may hav had something to do with it, so I bought a 39...
