i thought the engine staid the same for most of the '90ies now i see that after the 85 model all Cr 500 had reed valves, flat slide carbs and bore-stroke dimensions of 89x79 (and all produced the same Hp)?

could somebody enlighten me about the motor differences?

the site below

is a very good reference guide to tell what year is what, provided you know the bikes serial number.[/url]

Black engine housing. Untill what year?

hello

could somebody tell me until what year did Honda produced the Cr 500 engine with black engine housings (carters)

was it until 1993?

and in any case can this engine be from a 1996 model?

i even made a sketch about it! :D

brown are the forces coming from the front or the back
blue are the reaction of the frame to the brown forces (oups...)
red are the twisting forces that are generated because the frame has strong front and rear mounts and there is less give in those arias ...

if i understand what you say correctly (and to decode it a bit)
it is not because we have vertical forces on the top (or bottom) of the beam
but because we have forces from the inside towards the outside of the beam.
(in other words the oval shape of the frame (from above) tries to became more round ...

what gas are you using? what rod, exactly? there are many grades of al/mag alloy. On my mig, I believe I used 4340 with an H25/argon mix.

i am using pure argon (99.9%)
the rod is AlMG4,5Mn (aka 3.3548, aka AW5183)

i have one more question...

since round tubes can withstand more force (and from different angles) than square tubes, wouldn't it be nice to change the entire underside (until the Y section) with round tubes :?:

Overengineered?

Hello and congrats for this forum.

Looking around the forum i saw many different (and amazing) ways of making the conversion and especially the Y section and the mounting holes.

As i am about to start cutting my CRF 450 05 to receive a 500 96 i would like to ask...

Did anyone had significant ...
