oh I think I understand. FWW acts like a flywheel nut? The 2 holes are there so I can make some bracket to turn FWW? This begs the question-what will hold on flywheel once this POS is off? I don't have nut that size laying around, am I correct that it is left handed as well? So I need to turn FWW cl...

FWW removal

OK time to take off the FWW from my 96, or should I say FFWW, F***ing flywheel weight. How does it come off? It has 4 set screws around perimeter. Allen head snapped in one so out come the easy outs. Dont know whose idea it was to put these little setscrews so that centrifugal force always works the...

thanks guys. It's a 96. I was just thinking it was odd that the PO went taller with the gearing and wanted confirmation on the stock. Every other dirtbike in world needs to be shortened up a skosh, except for the mighty 500. This is only 500 I've ever ridden so I was gonna leave the FWW on for a few...

3 easy questions

1. My manual says final gearing for my bike was 3.5:1. I assume that was 14/49? My bike has 14/47, is that typical? I mean, 14/49 sounds pretty short too me.(for a 500 u know) 2. I have a 2 piece uni filter, which is news to me. Any special requirements in regards to cleaning/oiling? 3. I have a ste...

oh hey don't go diggin in the trash for me, I'll keep looking. FWIW, you're lucky if dealers around here have the spark plug you need, let alone aftermarket graphics for a discontinued model.

thanks guys. Why the F doesn't my manual say anything about it? Honda service manual 92-96, printed in 95. mines a 96, built 5/95 I think. It gives the standard mj size as a 170, so it is denying my pj's existence. Well it runs OK so no biggie. I'll pull it apart some time when I'm bored and have a ...

carb differences

sorry if this question is lame but how does my powerjet carb work? Is it a tiny nozzle in the venturi that starts to flow when it gets a strong enuf signal? That's how my old 2T tuning book describes it. So is it adjustable at all, I assume no as I can't find anything about it. I'm happy how my bike...

thanks guys. After posting last nite I looked in the manual and it wants you to yank side cover, drive out bearing and oil seal, just to get behind the water seal and drive it out with their special tool.Nuts to that. I'm with you guys.
thanks!

water pump seal

actually I've got 2 questions but they're both easy. First, getting a little coolant out of weephole. I don't think any oil is in it and I didn't see any coolant in oil when I drained it, so only first seal is bad, correct? So this should be a pretty easy yank-cover-off-and replace-seal fix right? i...

shorty spark plug?

hey all just got my 96 steelie back running and about kicked my leg off getting it started. Before I figured out my gas was crap I swapped the plug a few times, and all I can say is that is for the birds. Don't a lot of you AF guys run a shorter plug because you have even less room than I do? I woul...

just got off phone, nice guy. He has buddy who owns bike shop work on it, so he doesn't know too many details, but the shop owner used to own the bike so that makes me feel pretty good about it. The orig. cylinder had been bored and was pretty aggressive, so it has been resleeved and is stock bore. ...

oh that's what I meant vhoney. Some people are ignorant of what may be wrong with a bike, original owner guy knew better. Ur right tho, it's better to assume you will have to get into bottom end on 15 yr old bike and then be pleasantly suprised when it all looks good.
