I put a 19" on my '01. Main reason being I used it for motocross as opposed to desert/offroad. Theoretically you don't need the extra tire depth for sharp object impact protection for moto as opposed to offroad rocks, roots etc. With the right tire the 19 makes for a lighter overall wheel weigh...

Jamming would be one thing. Taking control of the signal enough to land it unscathed seems a little more hard to believe. Self destruct equipment would be too heavy. The more I think about it the more I think the chances of that thing landing in a manner and place as to come out undamaged are slim. ...

Cool bike. Not really fair to compare a street legal off road (mellow) tuned 450 to a MX tuned 450 let alone a KX500. After that is said and done one has to ask what you're comparing it to in terms of gearing. That's a sweet and sexy scooter. Nothing's going to feel like a KX500. I'm sure it's a hel...

Maybe you aren't getting full travel on your forks. Front too stiff, throws the chassis out of balance. Loads the back end and mabe your rebound is too loose. Compression too soft, back end collapses and then WHAMMO! Full on " How many tickets for THIS Fair Ride"! Make the Tilt- A-Whirl s...

I think it was just an simple over-correction. When he went past 90 degrees, the nose started to tuck under so Jimmy had to instantly push stick forward and roll right to save it.... which he did... but then he had to instantly pull aft stick again to contuine with the turn and avoid crossing the &...

Wow. Almost looks like a classic accellerated stall. This can happen at high speed/bank angle. The shorter the wing the higher the AOA required to maintain G and/or turn rate, and the closer you are to accelerated stall. Except for Rare Bear that thing looked like it had the shortest wing out there....

What's very odd (as you pointed out yesterday) is the asymetry of the tabs in the picture from behind. Even the elevators themselves look like they're asymetric with the LH looking like it's up a little while the RH side is very faired. I don't know about this airplane but I know some other P-51 guy...

At that speed the elevator doesn't necessarily need to be pulled back for the aircraft to pitch up. The faster the aircraft goes the more downforce is being generated by the horizontal stabilizer. The trim tabs job is to counter this downforce by "trimming" the elevator down to make the ai...

Interesting. Perhaps the tabs were mis-rigged or deliberately rigged that way for some reason? Could have been a factor.

The fact that Hannah's broke on the left side also makes me wonder if the prop wash might put extra stress/vibration on that side...

This pilot could have potentialy recovered as well depending on what the aircraft did after gloc. The aircraft running out of energy would have been a good thing. In hannas case it climbed and in fact did run out of energy, allowing him to recover. In this case the roll component basically induced a...

Hmmm. The stock 5.5 kg Ti spring on my YZ450 is only about 90mm wide. I wonder if one of those would fit your shock. Who makes the spring you have? I've become a huge fan of the weight savings and action of Ti springs. All it takes is $$$. There's no sense scimping on a high end AF 500 like yours......

Beautiful! It's a shame not to use the Ti shock spring. I would definitely relieve the engine cases as long as it wasn't too much. Especially with all the other Ti on the bike.

I'd be willing to bet they were doing Vmu (minimum unstick) tests and rolled/dragged a wing. Reports say they got airborne briefly and then hit the ground hard collapsing the gear. Back in the 80's they drug a wing on a G-4 doing those tests, but with much less tragic results. The 650 wing is very h...

In the two examples listed where the 18" was the same weight as the 19" they were both 18" Dunlop 756's.

I'd be willing to bet that 18" 756's are probably one of the lightest 18's ever made.
