...I agree....no need. Remember, stiffness is not always your friend. If you make an area stiffer than was originally intended, or stiff in the wrong location or load plane, you cause the loads (stress, strain, vibration caused excitation) to migrate elsewhere in the frame which will likely cause an...

Also, the temper of the aluminum is key: fully annealed (T-0), half hard (T-3) and fully heat treated (T-6). 6061-T6 requires VERY generous bending radius so as not to crack, and it also requires a significant amount of over-breaking due to the spring-back of the material. The general rule is the so...

a BIG congrats dude!!! You sure sound like a proud pappa! Sounds like you have sized up the bike pretty quickly too. The gen. one will benefit from having the suspension dialed in FO SHO! The bike is a good comprimise between the steely and the more modern gen two/three/four bikes. Each generation t...

That stinks dude.....hate to say it, but that tank is toast. That hole is far too large to repair. Now then, my best results have been as follows: Rinse the inside of the tank with water/simple green solution. Once cleaned, start the heating process. But wait, let's back up a second and talk about k...

For the record: there should be VERY LITTLE draw-in of the frame cradle tubes when you tighten the front engine mounts. The space is left in to compensate for the manufacturing tolerances of the original frame. The proper thing to do is shim the gaps accordingly. As for the relocation of the mountin...

Hmmmmm....those look familiar.... Nice job mang! BTW: The only other hardware required to complete the conversion is a Y fitting so solve the two into one coolant hose issue. I have designed one of those as well, but had not yet done a drawing. I will make that drawing PDQ. It can be done usin...

That thing looks fun as hell Shannon. I'm really considering kart racing. But damn, I LOVE MX. :? wait until you're 40 and your knees, shoulder and wife won't quit complaining! BTW: your build is progressing....albeit, slowly. I haven't forgotten you, but I keep trying to! Bwahahahahahaha!!!!

OK doodes...sorry it took so long, but I got around to rev'ing up the gen. one kit drawing. I also hit up my machinist to give me a quote for making 10 new kits to sell. I'll keep ya posted on what I come up with regarding lead time and cost. If i opt not to have the kits built, I'll let y'all know ...

Hate to burst your bubble man, but the fit for desert tanks on gen 1 AF's sucks...simple as that. You are going to have to do some serious reshaping of the tank to get it to clear the head stay and the flanges coming off the back of the head. Also, go ahead and pop for the shorty plug too...you'll b...

I dub thee: BCR500R Gen 1
Guys, I'll work with Bob to post the write up and the detail drawings for the gen. one build. I'll be spending much of my future time karting and finishing a gen. three build for a friend and fellow hoon. Thus, I want the gen. one info to be free to the guys who can/will really use it without having...
