CRF front in My '87

So, I've done the unthinkable and changed out the front end on My 500. Not too many complaints with the originals, but the lower legs are prone to getting dented (both My originals and the spare set I got are dented) which causes 'sticky' spots, and I got some '05 450 forks etc for the right price (...

You'll definitely get rub, there's gonna be some fork flex too. It shouldn't be dangerous, I've seen it on heaps of stuff over the years. Maybe a different pipe?

'87 shock setup.

If anyone is interested, I finally got the rear shock on My '87 500 working pretty well. I'm 83kg and use it for MX, I'm also an older guy that had a massive crash recently, so no 100ft doubles etc, though i still launch it fairly well. When I got it it still had the stock spring, but I'm guessing i...

95+CR/CRF front wheel onto an '87

I just did a conversion on My '87 500, fairly straight forward if you have access to a lathe and mill; Make a pair of these, 25mm od x 16.5mm long on the big bit on one, and 25mm x 13 long for the other, 20 od x 15 (so it pokes through the bearing into the crush tube) on the smaller bit (both), bore...

Re: 2001 Forks `Special Tool` ????

In the old days with damper rod forks you could usually get them by compressing 'em with the springs in and using an impact gun on the bolt. The cartridge fork is a similar setup, the base valve simply screws into the cartridge (instead of a bolt into a damper rod) so try that way. I would suggest t...

I'm from New Zealand and about this time last year brought an '87 500. Had to rebuild the engine as it had bugger all compression and play in the mains.I only got to ride it properly a couple of times, then in the middle of January had a huge crash on My other bike that put me out of riding 'till 3-...
