:woot: Got my jig in the mail yesterday! Going to be alot easier moving that in and out of the frame than a motor. Should also give alot more hand room for taking measurements for mount fabrication.
Thanks Mik! :clink:

 uuummm, I like pizza...  I didn't heat tread any of my frames, so I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I jusat wonder if the risk of warpage and all the work to clean up the frame after heat treating makes it worth it. i think its well worth it , with all the heat from...

I'm going by ASM guides of Heat Treatment of aluminum. That was kind of my point in my first post. The specs are different for castings VS wrought. Cast calls for several hours @ 940-1000deg, both time and temp dependent on which series the aluminum is. The tubing on the other hand only calls for mi...

I'm planning a slightly different method. I'm going to do a vacuum stress relief nitrogen gas fan cool (hope to eliminate any warpage) and then precipitation harden. Any chance of explaining to average joe exactly how this process works ? It just means I will use a vacuum furnace to heat and quench...

Okay, I guess I'll be dumb enough to chime in. Do we really know what all series of aluminum Honda uses in their frames? Some of the parts are cast, others extruded then it is all welded together. While probably not too important in our frames, different alloys react differently to temperature and t...

Sorry to take so long. My home pc is fucked! Those are without question Yamaha pegs. Get # 90508-28015-00 left 90508-28018-00 right. There is no tab. One end of spring hooks over arm of peg, the other end hooks over the lower tab of the frame mount. Looking at your picture and comparing my YZ, they ...

That looks like a OEM Yamaha peg. They came on 06 and newer YZs.
I would think you could order the springs for them. Unless someone else can verify this before this afternoon/evening, I'll look at mine when I get home from work and let you know. I'm almost positive it's a Yamaha though.

Thanks guys!
Mike, I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm using 3/4" X 2 1/2" flat to make the mounts but might mill a small recess on them for the bolt head and nut
but not sure just yet.

Engine Mount Bolts

Forgive me if it has been covered before, but I haven't seen it anywhere.
Obviously with the thicker mounting brackets the stock bolts won't be long enough. What's everbody using?

I don't think I'd panic just yet. Kind of hard to tell from the angle of the top photo but, I looks like the pedal is well above the foot peg. Lay a straight edge across the foot peg and see how it looks with the pedal slightly below the peg.

The trick is that it is very difficult to get the angle right to match the tubing unless you have a milling machine. Getting shanman's mounts really is a requirement with the gen 3 frames.[/quote]

desertrider, what did you use for the bottom mounts? Is it possible to relocate the oem ones?

From The Other Place

I saw this over there. http://cr500riders.com/cgi/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1212196648 Since I'm not a current 500 owner according to them I have nothing of value to offer over there. Anyway, my solution to loosening or tightening the flywheel nut without an impact is: pull the plug, find TDC then rotate the...

Does anyone have a source for matching rectangle tube? I figured on making some pieces out of solid but would really prefer tubing if I could get my hands on some.

So I just smoked a brand new OEM clutch (fibers and steels, they are steel not aluminum) but I think where I went wrong is using the stock (new) springs. Probably should have used heavy duty. I didn't make it one ride in the dunes and it was slipping bad. New Hinson basket as well. I will have to t...

Hello From DFW TX

I found this place a couple of weeks ago and have found lots of good info and also entertainment. I've been wrenching for my 22yo son and 19yo daughter for about 10yrs now. They both race in a xc series here in TX. Planning on a 03 crf450 conversion in the next couple of months. I've already swapped...
