My theory wraps around the coil not getting a proper feild charge at high rpm... spark gap may help. Good one.

Yeah, I agree.... My DRZ flat out SMOKES guys in the corners. But...every corner has a straight attached on both ends and that's where the sportbikes wave bye,bye.

Good fun though for sure. In my opinion it's WAY more fun to try and go really fast on a slow bike...then go really slow on a fast bike ...

I'm still not seeing a good explanation as to why people go through the expense of lowering compression ratios instead of simply lowering boost pressures. Equal cylinder pressures should equal same HP numbers.

Why do ALL inline (not "V" or square or "flat" shaped) motors that I can think of (off the top of my puny, slightly pointed head) have the intake behind the engine subjected to a lot of heat and the exhaust system in the front and having to make a innefficient "U-turn" to get to the back of the bike ...

OK, this is not related to 500cc 2-stroke motorcycles...though it is engine related.

To reduce pre-ignition issues....why do you lower the compression ratio when turbo charging an engine? Wouldn't running a lower boost level acomplish the same thing?

If storing a 2 stroke for an extended period of time, what's the best stroke position to put the piston at....and why do you think so? I know a 4 stroke single should be at TDC so the valves are all closed, what do you think about 2-strokes?

It is a dual sport haven!! The pics look REALLY rocky, but it's not really that bad. I'm off the trail a bit when I took those. It's not dirt exactly...but you're not rolling over jagged lava all the time either.

Well, Happy New Year and all that.
Took the "Widowmaker" out last weekend and it was a blast! Cruised up a trail that ended at exactly 10,000ft and the view was spectacular!

Hope everyone is doing well, many projects, lots of work, sorry I've been gone a while.
