As promised, I am posting the tank pic. The bottom was heated with a heat gun and pushed in. The Acerbis tank began at 2.9 gal and ended at approx 2.6 gal. http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii132/jerrycr500/DSCN0289.jpg Since the initial build post, I have valved the suspension, painted the engine,...

I failed to mention, in my 4th gen build, that I'm running a reed cage spacer. I totally forgot about it. I run an 88 reed cage for more low end and it requires a spacer to fit in the cylinder. My intake boot is still 89 up with the rubber ears cut off because the 88 cage uses a stuffer. That's all ...

Put 50 miles of frozen/thawed eastern singletrack on her today. This thing ROCKS!!!!!!!! She handles way better than the old steelie. I experienced no problems what so ever. After washing, I inspected the welds and found no problems.... . I'm ready to build another one!!!!! Now to gold valve the sus...

Basically, I just heated the bottom of the tank with a heat gun. My son and I used wooden hammer handles to push it in once heated and cooled it with a blow gun. I'll take a pic of it next time I have it off. For now, you can save some of the earlier photos I posted of the clearance, and blow them u...

Sorry I didn't post pics as I assembled it. After 5 days at the welder, I got her back. I was like a kid at christmas. Took a vacation day from work and worked 16 hours on her. It was worth it. Now, 2 days later, I took her for a spin around the yard. Who needs a lawn ariator when you have a cr500!!...

Now that I'm 40 the saying holds true "The older I get, The faster I was". I've been riding since 1979 and hope to ride many more years. I live in eastern Tennessee, where we have lots of riding. I've been riding CR500's since 1996 and have yet to find anything to replace them..... We ride...

It's a 2004 CRF250R chassis. I'll post a pic of the head stay tomorrow. The coil is going to be mounted on the top side of the subframe rail that the silencer is mounted to, behind the air box. ( a little more rearward than Alisobobs') The coil wire will be a long one. The ignition module will be mo...

Looks like she's ready for welding. All the metal fab is complete. All pipe, silencer, coil, module, and overflow brackets are ready. My FMF pipe (not shown) only required minor angle tweaking and increase the factory clearance dent at the reed cage. The Acerbis tank fits wonderfully after heating a...

Just a quick google search resulted in the following link http://www.cyclewareables.com/pages/am_compression_release/am_compression_release_kits.htm A friend had a small parts shop and he ordered them for me. I ordered enough to do me for as long as I can ride. He has since moved out of state. I'll ...

ALISOBOB, good thought. A friend made that for me a long time ago. It basically just cushions the kicker when its' returned. It made my friend happy, so what the heck.
Btw, You may already know, but the following link is to a wide ratio kit.

That is a valve type compression release. They were common in the 70's because some bikes had 2 spark plug holes. I do not use it for starting, other than maybe clearing a flooded engine. Its' main purpose is braking. I live in the hills of eastern tennessee. As you know, there are lots of times tha...

LIVENDIESMOKINS' 4TH GEN CRF250R 500/AF BUILD
The build has begun. I did as ALISOBOB suggested and notched the frame rail to avoid the engine case clearance issue, and to rotate the engine downward in the front. This also allowed me to relocate the Y a little lower to avoid rad clearance. I discovered that the right side engine spacer is the co...
