1991 Cr500 small rebuild

This is a small rebuild of my bike. I took off the intake and there was a crack in the piston. I put a Vertex piston in it and had it bored 1 over. Someone cut the silencer down to 4 inchs. I replaced it with a new Pro Circuit 304 silencer. Took the flywheel off to replace the seal and saw a welded ...

Thanks, Dogger.
I ride in the woods. So the shorty should be good for that I guess.
I will probably get a regular one this summer and see what one I like.

Pro Circuit shorty silencer

My 91 CR500 has a Pro Circuit shorty silencer or cut down silencer on it.
Why would someone run a shorty?
What is the difference in power delivery between a shorty and a regular silencer?
Would it be better to get a regular silencer?

Thanks,
Jason

I just spent around $300 on a top end rebuilt on by 1991.(cracked piston) So if you can not pull the reed cage and look for cracks before buying, you may spend $300 later. Just remember to check ...

Long time lurker. I have a 1991 CR500. Been riding since 1982 When I lived in San Bernardino, Ca. First bike was a 76 KX400. My dad had to start it for me and I did not get out of second gear. Next was more my size, a 71 SL100 dual sport, then the following 77 YZ250, 84 XL600. Total the XL600 into a...
