the welder should have used TIG and hand fed the alloy rod in there, those ginormous aluminum MIG welds just stack a cold pile of alloy right on top of a seam with no real penetration..... maybe the welder (machine) and not the welder ( hillbilly fabricator) is to blame..... either way most fabricat...

funny, they crack somewhere before they just bust in half, i wonder if that cat ever inspected that chassis between motos or if he just rode the hell out of it cracked until it finally went boom....heaven forbid a guy actually inspects the weld seams from time to time...... i blame the rider or mech...

you dont have to do relocate the Y, you can leave it, i have done it on my first build which was also an 02 CR250R, BUT i couldnt run top springs on the pipe unless i added big mounts to the cradle or something, and it seemed like a ton of extra work hogging out the bottom of the Y over and over and...

trick with aluminum is a soft radius rather than a cracking tight fold, also, theres a grain to it, if you bend it right on the grain direction it cracks like the san andreas..... you gotta go opposite the grain, and bend it gently.... i run a double sided stay each piece is 1/4" 6061, very sof...

or if it was a cali bike they may have re stamped it trying to get a green sticker, which cut off at 97 before it went to 02...... i had a 99 CR250 in 2000 that was a red sticker bike here in cali..... then they changed the dmv laws again andgrandfathered them in up to 02 ........blah blah.... im ju...
